If anyone knows---what disc brakes is Vintage Speedsters using these days? The caliper takes a D-111 disc and has thin-ish wire "keeps" on the top and the bottom. None of my books shows such a caliper.

I heard it was a Carman Ghis disc brake but after digging on the internet I don't think so.

If you know----Thanks---Jack

Jack,

Could be a mix of things.
The D111 pads fit the Varga and ATE calipers. There is also a new Chinese knock-off of these that I would assume they fit too. These calipers were for VW TI (Brazil, not sure about US), TIII platform (square/ghia/variant/brasilia), Audi, Alfa, Chevy, and others.

What may be confusing is that several kits use these calipers with various other components. We use the Ghia disc spindle, but they can be used with a drum spindle and caliper bracket too.

Not sure what parts you are looking for, but you'd want to know what spindle you have before buying bearings etc...
Gordon,Ricardo,Lane & Carey---what a brain trust we have here! Thanks for your responses.

I had heard Ghia too. I do know my pads are D111 but the caliper unit has little wire thingies at the top and at the bottom. I really can't tell what they are for because when i remove them nothing can be loostened that I can see. They seem like some kind of keeper.

None of my VW books show a disc brake like this. I asked Kirk but no response yet. Thanks for your help---I'll check that supplier to Vintage. Thanks!---Jack
