I've spent the last 25 years playing with aircooled VW's, mostly the California Look with 48ida's, close ratio transmissions and quick quarter mile times. Recently, I've found myself leaning more towards a speedster with some highway gears, a car which could be driven all day. The cars which have pushed me over the top have to be Dale Bate's and George Brown's cars. Both of which are gorgeous vehicles. I was hanging around the CLF while GB was researching his powertrain, and spent too much time in Steve Hollingsworth's shop while the case was getting fitted with lifter bore bushings. Do either of you gentlemen have detail photos of your cars, or has either car been featured in a magazine? I've been gathering parts for the last couple months, like early 6 inch fuchs, early fluted lense headlights and an early Berg shifter(some things from our misspent youth just won't go away). All this is in anticipation of the right deal coming along. Perhaps I'll have huge garage sale and just do a speedster. Thanks for letting me vent.

Luke,

the VW bug and the Speedster virus are one in the same. If you decide to have a garage sale, I would be more than happy to help you find a home for the early(deep) Fuchs and the fluted lenses.

Check out the files/photos for George and Dale's cars. There are some pretty good pics of at least George's build. I know Dale is heading North soon he may be snapping some more pics. I know he is supposed to look for my 2009 IM when he is there.
Well, you guys already have me hooked. Been lurking for some time, but now I may be a little more active if time permits. Perhaps a 2007 IM? Patrick and I BS'ed for well over an hour this afternoon. My stash of parts is going to get lots smaller during the coming months to pay for my new "mistress". Definitely have to make time for the Knott's Berry show.
