Just saw this on the Samba, seems like a nice car at a nice price. Not mine, just thought someone might be interested: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=497200

Looks like a potential "steal" to me!
Sounds almost too good to be true. That looks like a Vintage car and if it is a 2005 build, he is asking about 6-7K below market. Hey Ernie, your close enough to go get it and turn it for some nice $$$$$$.
he sold it yesterday, 1st day.
You read my mind Tom! I Emailed the guy but haven't heard back.
I also e-mailed this guy.....Got no reply back....was this a scam?

I think he's either kicking himself for selling so cheap or really needed the cash pronto. He said he bought it new so he must have had some idea of the value; I wish deals like this were around when I was shopping for mine.
this was a scam i think. i saw this car and had dejavu all over again.
it was on ebay about a month ago, i remember the tires looked too fat and they needed detailing bad. the guy was in CT. but it had CA. plates on it which is strange. it was for sale for a few days and poof it vanished, no bids on it, just disappeared. this guy is jerking the populace, most likely doesnt even own it.

It might be someone who is in the market to buy one trying to beat down the values by creating some phony comps.

Be warned...I just received this email (see below) after responding to the ad. This car was advertised about a month ago on eBay. This is definitely a scam!

Adam,
Thank you for your interest in my car.
I have ended the listing because I had a buyer offering me the requested price, but unfortunately his loan didn't get approved.
The reason why I am selling it so cheap involves my job.I work as a sergeant in the US army and I was deployed to work in UK for a while.
I've brought the car here with me so I can drive it during my free time but I found out that I have to pay a large amount of money to
register it here, because it was purchased and registered in US and Europe emission regulations are different from US ones.
The car will be shipped from Thetford, UK & I will cover shipping fees. Since the car is shipped on a military cargo, the shipping is free.
Will be shipped over sea to NY, from there MoveCars will pick it up and deliver it at your door in 14 days tops.
You will receive all the documents of the car (owner's manuals, keys, clear title, bill of sale) in order to register the car under your name.
The car is in perfect shape and starts smoothly. The car has been always garaged.
I only go home once in 8 months, it's a shame to keep a car like this garaged for such a long time .The price of the car is $12,800.
If you want to buy it, e-mail me with any questions that you may have. You can see more pictures of the car here:

I just received the exact same email, word for word! I asked him if he would set-up an escrow account. I bet I never hear back from him.

"all the documents of the car" ...
Yeah. Ever know an Army (or Marine, or Air Force) sergeant who didn't write as they spoke?
That ain't no 'Merican, there. We don't write that way.

This is the fourth fraud attempt against me since I started looking for a car on-line a month ago.
Last week I agreed to buy a car on-line and the seller insisted on a wire transfer in full. When I said I'd fly out with a certified check...the car was suddenly not available anymore.
Buyer beware!
