Does anybody know if there are any companies that make hardtops for the speedster and how much are they? I have seen them for sale on ebay every once in awhile ...but how hard is it to retro fit these to a kitcar?

Fibersteel.com make a hardtop for my replica. They come in two different styles, a nicely finished, fairly complicated, "period" top called a "Glasspar", or a simpler top called the "Plasticon". The tops themselves are both set up for original speedters, which have the windshield frame mounted 1"-1 1/2" closer to the door openings than a replica (except a Vancouver IM). I had a Glasspar top modified to fit my JPS speedster during the build of my car. If you call Russ R. from Fibersteel and discuss your desires with him, he should be able to let you know when he could have whichever you would be after available.
