OK I know this is a longshot but I gotta try, Last sunday morning I spotted a silver Speedster travelling on the Ip1 towards Lisbon just after the freeway junction in Algarve, probably a replica, black softop and bigger than usual radical rims, it happenend so quickly but I managed to distinguish that the plates are Portuguese, and the reason I got so excited - Speedsters in Portugal are as scarce as 500

More than likely it was Miguel Caldeira Proenca's car. I believe his replica was silver and I know he used to live in Lisbon and has relatives in Albufiera. Last time I heard from him was about 2003 and was planning on looking him up when I went to Algarve for holidays but misplaced his phone numbers.

Won't be going to the Algarve this summer unless something drastic (and good) happens. Going to miss those endless sunny days and sitting outside till the wee hours in the cafes...

Miguel used to post here from time to time but I haven't seen anything from him lately. I probably still have his e-mail address here somewhere...

I don't know Rick...I've seen some horrific wrecks over there! On all roads from the IC to remote rural roads. Doesn't seem to matter. I think I've read that Portgual has the worst rate of traffic accidents in all of Europe.

But that weather in the Algarve would definately be top down...hell, forget the top altogether. The thing I love about the Algarve (other than the people, the food, the inexpensive wine and beer) is the consistantly sunny, hot days. When I'm there I often comment to the wife that wouldn't it be nice to have the IM here?

Shipping cars overseas is really not that expensive I've read. If you were going over for an extended vacation I've read that shipping can be more economical than renting. Never checked into it though...not that wealthy!

I usually am over there in June but last year was July. Different job...different busy periods.

This year just have too many things going on to take a holiday other than a few days here or there. However, I may go over for a short visit in Sept/Oct so maybe should get in touch?

We usually stay around Albufiera. Used to stay in the town but lately have been preferring B&Bs in rural areas. Always fun to party in town but also nice to have the peace and quiet of the rural areas at night.

Last year was in Guia and I think I'd stay there again this year. I like that town and it has my favourite restaraunt...Ramirez. I know that fish and seafood is supposed be the Algarve's food but I do like the Piri Piri chicken at Ramirez. That and the waiters always remember us from year to year and always treat us exceptionally...shaking out hands when we go there the first time in a holiday, offering wine on the house, etc. Always feel at home there.

There are so many beaches there and since we have none here I enjoy each and every day there. Last year went out with a guy I know there on his boat to some islands in the mouth of the river at Faro and tried kite surfing. Was just great!

I envy you....I'd move there in a second!
Hey Brian I am just about to go to Guia, going to meet a mate for lunch then going to Algoz to quote a TV system for a n ew development. Now you green with envy, as you know we work at a laidback pace but I still cant get used to it, always on the run.I hope u can make over here this year it will be great to get together.Right gotta go almost noon here............
That laid back pace is what I like.... Of course when you're wanting work done it can be a pain but when its you doing the work...laid back is good!

...and then sit out in a cafe all evening eating, drinking and talking football. Seems we're always over there during some big football event. Either that or there always is a football event happening.

When I was a kid, I spent some of my vacations on this island off the coast of Algarve (Ilha Do Farol). At that time, it was undeveloped with just one restaurant and a couple of houses. My sister told me that I wouldn't recognize it today.
Luis, quando for ai, a gente bebe umas cervejas e podes me dizer aonde e que estao as praias topless....(O:~R
