Hi,

I'm in the market for a replica speedster and have been reading up and researching different options for the last 4-5 months. I've recently found what I think is a good deal on a Vintage Speedsters replica in CA.  I'm based in NYC and so I would be buying sight unseen and was wondering if anyone could suggest a good mechanic in the area with a knowledge of speedsters who could perform an independent inspection.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

karl

I strongly recommend coming to the Carlisle Import and Kit Nationals next week.  Many of us from all over the country will gather there as will several of the manufacturers.  If you come, you will be able to compare cars from different manufacturers side by side, speak to owners and builders, and probably take some test drives.  It's research that would be well worth the trip.

Karl, it sounds like you are ready to pull the trigger, do yourself a favor, jump in your whatevermobile next weekend and head over to Carlisle, PA as others have mentioned.

You might be able to buy one right there, save yourself the shipping and know what you're actually buying. I'll give you a ride in mine and I'll almost guarantee others will offer the same.

As Lane mentions, research well worth the price of admission. Trust me, don't get over anxious.

As a matter of fact, there will be one of the Southern California guys at Carlisle. After observing the cars in Carlisle, if you have to absolutely have that car in Costa Mesa, he might check it out for you...seriously, cool your jets. Trust me, I know.

Karl - these are great tips to consider. A little time researching at Carlisle (next week) will give you very valuable visual and monetary reference for what you're looking for (Manufacturer, power train, vehicle condition and purchase/maintain expense.

BTW - I Costa Mesa is a 15-minute drive from my location and I will be at Carlisle next week as well, just in case...

Thanks to everyone for the advise.  I'm making plans to attend Carlisle and I'd love to meet folks and see the different manufactures and cars.

A bunch of folks have asked what i'm looking for.  I have a 911 997 c2sport in silver/black and I'm looking to buy its little sister :-)

Ideally an authentic looking car, showroom condition in silver/black with a reasonable amount of power, disk brakes and a high quality chassis design.  Its going to be used mostly in the summer by myself and my girlfriend who is also a bit of a car nut.
