Ha Ha, just saw that one on BAT. Looks like a Mexican special, standard beetle floorpan, very stretched behind the doors. Rough looking bumper trim, Speedster trim on the fender and rocker trim among other things, not least of which is the bizarre convertible top. The wheel openings in the fenders are not quite right either...
That's fascinating. Has anyone ever seen that fan shroud?
Look, a Speedster for tall peeps.
A 356 limo!
What the heck?!
Just a couple of days ago I said nobody was going to lengthen a body.
And just like that… wrong again.
What the heck?!
The Top and Tonneau really need some work, car looks like it has on his dad's clothes.
It was purportedly built for Sultan Kösen.
OK I'll take the bite, who be that?????

$50k lol
I was at a loss for words before the opening bid of $50k. Now I’m simply dumbfounded.
Ok, let me get this straight... My Coupe goes for $65k and that... thing is already at $50k with a "1.7-Liter Flat-Four" with "Dual EMPI Carburetors", swing axles, awkward proportions, and a laughable top?
It's another sight of the apocalypse. Either that, or the bid is bogus.
Whoever did the interior, the tonneau, the carpeting, and the roof should take up another line of work.
Please shut the flap on our big tent.
And set up a perimeter razor wire, claymores, etc.

Got it ....Thanks
The person behind the account that placed the $50k bid is not brand new, he (or she) joined over a year ago and has made previous bids on several cars including 12 replica speedsters. Some bids even appear to be modestly competitive.
The seller’s account began about a year ago and has just a little action. They are located in “San Diego”.
This is a head scratcher. It is hard to imagine the bid for $50k is legit, so maybe this is just a real long play by someone who helps elevate the final winning bid? Or the bidder is just bonkers, and thinks this car is the bomb and wants to make sure this beauty doesn’t slip through his fingers.

There is no other explanation.
Just another reason to dislike BaT.
The bidder seems real and has bid on 20 other Speedsters in the past year ,
looking at past bids it seems he is 6ft 3 and 225 pounds so maybe this car is built just for him !
One thing I do not understand is the first bid was 5k. And then next bid was 50k ,
Does that mean the first bidder had a max in the high 40s and got outbid ?
I have no idea which end is even up, but if the bidder isn't a shill, this is the strangest auction I'll ever see.
Why would BAT accept something like this? Really changes my opinion of BAT. This must be a joke and the $50k bidder is a set-up.
There are so many homemade aluminum pieces, (windshield frame and mounts, grille, mirrors, etc.) someone must have a furnace and lots of beer cans. The sanding dust and finger prints under the hoods are awesome, not to mention the interior and top could have been done better by a kindergarten upholstery class. The more you look, the more it hurts.
The auctions ends before April 1st, so that eliminates one theory.
The $50k bid was backed out - the bidder told BAT they made a typo.
Does the steering wheel look like it is about 12” in diameter to anyone else?
It reminds me of an image you'd see produced by some AI program.
Yeah, it's back down to $5k as the bid.
That's about $3k too much.
A good dose of reality here......the seller is now in "Mudville".
This car looks like "George from Texas" built it. 🤠
I had to stop looking at it. Every photo showed something grossly wrong, and I'm a pretty tolerant person with other people's cars.
That thing is pretty hideous.
Well the $50K is cancelled and now at $5K lol the standards of B.... are dropping fast.
I would gladly pay 5k for it , them put a flat type 3 VW motor in it , cut a little here and there and make a …
Speedster Camino……

Oh, heck yeah - I'd roll that.
John Dixon built an over the top 356 PreA Porsche panel van , not sure if he extended the 356 chassis or not……
Yep that’s it…….
Not stretched. I like the idea of a tribute to
As cool as that is, Ed - it really looks like that Jag wouldn't haul a casket over 4 ft long. I think it's just for funnin'.
