I think you guys are being entirely too harsh on this.
Frankly, it's a Speedster interpretation that's been long overdue. And one that would probably have received the factory's blessing back in the day.
We all know of Zuffenhausen's reluctance to grant Max Hoffman's request for a 'stripped down' 356 cabriolet. Their convertibles had always been posh, top of the line models and I think they were a little embarrassed by the Speedster's hoonigan image.
In this stretched version, we see an attempt to regain some of that lost elegance. And dang if Ed's instincts aren't bang on by referencing that eery E-type.
