Terry, you're just too fast... I just got done looking at their website. All the repo's had a VS stock number.

Did you see the 146,000 speedster. Nice car but it's been altered quite a bit. Appears to have disc brakes thus no wide 5 also a later 356 shifter and the engine has been altered, no factory oil filter (POS to begin with) but makes it look original and, it doesn't have it's original engine
I actually work near Park Place (at Microsoft), and they mentioned that they are Vintage Speedsters. According to them, they have Vintage add a few additional layers of paint, which they then cut-polish before applying the body trim. They also mentioned that they tune, re-jet, "re-curve the distributor" (whatever that means). I took a photocopy of their price list for a nice example, for your edification:

Base Price: $22,950
1915 cc Engin: $1,450
Dual Weber Carbs: $450
3.88 Tranny: $650
Full Leather: $1,400
Bordeaux top and boot: $0.00
Front Disc Brakes: $450
Bumper Guards: $200
Trunk Carpet: $450
Banjo Steering: $375
Headlight Grilles: $230
Authentic Badging: $659
Spyder seats: $395
Luggage Rack: $300
365 Sill Plate Kit: $300
Crested Super Hub Caps: $395
Leather Shift Boot: $95
Special Paint Porsche Silver: $600
Cocoa Mats: $235
Freight: $995

Total: $32,680

They have 5 in stock, currently, ranging in price from $28K to $33K. They're nice cars, but I'm sort of wanting to do some personal work on the car, so I'm leaning towards a Beck.
See the thing is, I'd like to build one with around a "Beck" level of difficulty, maybe a bit more. Having built a few choppers I'm not afraid of the mechanical work, but I really don't want to bother with the hassle and expense of fiberglass, bondo, and paint. But, even at this price it'd be cheaper to buy a built car than a Beck kit.

I'd be interested in a non-Beck kit (particularly an IM one), if I can get the price point down to around $25K including motor and reasonable accessories. However, if I have to get a cheaper kit and then do $5K-$7K in body prep/paint, then it's all sort of a wash.

Any advice?

Andy
I don't think IM provides kits of any sort. I believe that they are all turn-key only. You might be able to get Kirk at Vintage to provide you with a painted roller in your price range that would leave enough money in the budget for the drivetrain. If you're willing to build the engine yourself, you could still do a Beck in you budget, but it'd be tight. Your best bet might be to get a sorted used car that doesn't have the drivetrain setup you want and then do the upgrades. It may take some research and negotiating, but I'm sure you can find something that'll work.
Alan's absolutely correct.

I'm just starting a build. I'm not very far into it and I can see that it's probably going to cost me at least as much as a Beck roller package, maybe more.

Anyway, I talked with Kirk at VS about a body yesterday. $7k for the subframe & body in primer w/hung doors, lids, windshield, wiring harness, with all of the holes cut, and maybe a few more features. Add interior pieces, trim, lights and you get to the $13,900. Shipping wont be cheap for me since I'm on the other side of the country. I've sourced a donor car w/title. I was planning on refurbing the pan, suspension myself, and doing a decent steering and brake upgrade. I will pretty easily be near or exceeding the price of a Beck at that point. I wasn't doing it this way to save any money, but honestly, I'm starting to re-evaluate the entire project. I think I'd rather buy someone else's project.
Lane is correct. Intermeccanica does not provide kits.

They do offer the Coach option which is a completely constructed car delivered on a pallet. You provide and install the front and rear running gear and engine. You can also purchase an Intermeccanica as a "roller". There is money to be saved by going with the "COACH"
Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'm going to be selling my '84 911 Cabriolet to finance a speedster project, so an IM look like it'll be realistically out of my range (which is a pity). I'll follow up in the more technical forums about the body work necessary for various manufacturers, to see if there's a good price/quality option for me.

Cheers,

A
I am thinking about selling my personal car in the very near future. It was pretty custom and certainly wouldn't suit everyone's taste, but it is currently less complete than our standard body package, and would make a good project for someone. Wiring has been updated to 2009 standards, as well as a efw other things... I have also done a ton of additional prep for some more custom work to the car, and would include all the new parts, as they are specific to this car.

Here is what it looked like a few years ago.

Got a call from Kirk at VS last Thursday - I was very impressed with his customer service. I'm working through color/motor options, and will be placing a kit order with him pretty soon. Thanks all for the advice, and I expect you'll see me posting in the technical forums here pretty quick.
