Mine look like that and are 3/4” but they are solid rod, not tubes.  They were made locally by a Hot Rod friend who has Nerfs on his Rod.  I got them chromed locally, too.  The guy who made them is a Hot Rod Artist who told me that anything larger than 3/4” diameter rod would look “clunky” on such a delicate-looking car.   I love ‘em.

Summit Racing carries Nerf bars - Look for something from “Pete and Jakes” nerf bars for quick inspiration, and also look on the “Hokey-Assed Message Board (HAMB) for a lot more inspiration.  Most hot rodders end up making their own or have someone make a custom set for their car.

And remember that if you run Nerfs AND live in a state requiring a front license plate 🤬 you have to come up with a classy way to mount that plate securely, somewhere on the front of the car.  Otherwise the wind can cause it to buffet and vibrate.

Here are a couple of close-ups of myNerfs from the side.  Front and rear and a shot of the license plate bracket and secret, patented, anti-vibration bumpers (that look suspiciously like rubber bottle stoppers from Rocky's Hardware).

Believe it or not, it took longer to get the curve on the end of the mounting bars right to match the curve of the upright bars than it did to bend the bars in the first place.

@Larry Scislowicz

I just did a pretty thorough google/eBay search for nerf bars just like mine and came up with nothing.  Pete and Jakes are curved, but more like an "S".  It might be worth a call to them to see if they could bend up a set like you want them - you never know, and besides.....  They're making these things all the time.  Call them:  1-800-334-7240

Alternatively, When I lived in Rhode Island, there were a handful of nearby shops that fabricated stainless steel boat safety railings, usually for sailboats but for power boats, too.  They've got all the tooling to make any kind of bends in lots of tubing or rod sizes and can weld stainless steel like the pros that they are.  After they grind off the welds to the mounting bars to look pretty (if necessary) they polish them up and they look like they've been chromed.  Poke around in North Carolina to see if anyone offers boat safety railings and whether they could make up a set of nerf bars for you.
