WOW this just replica just crossed the block at $47,000. Is this a sign of things to come or the excitement of an auction.

It did not say but I am pretty sure that was a Vintage Speedster and if Kirk was watching he is probably calling Barrett-Jackson to enter about 20 of them in the Scottsdale event.
Some people have more money than brains...
Final price, I guess with the reserve was $51,700. Wow! Is that a Vintage? Engine didn't look like it, but maybe he is doing them different now.
caveat emptor
Maybe he didn't hear the part about it being a tribute car. Either way I just shipped my car to Scottsdale for the next auction.
Wait , what....a Tribute Car??? I guess tribute cars go for much more then Replicas. Note to self, my Speedsters will now be called Tribute cars not replicas.
@Panhandle Bob- What's different about the engine, Bob? And wow, someone paid a lot for the privilege of having it right now...
Your car just went up in value Joe
I was there today and it was a Vintage Speedster. I had to show them how to open the engine lid. I talked with several who were planning to bid but was shocked at the final price!

Hmmmm? I can't wait for Spring.
I just don't see that bedazzled car selling for much...

I don't either, Bill, but all it takes is 2 people to take a shine to it and who knows how much it'll end up fetching...
It's all in the lighting. Very hard to tell in a photograph.
Interesting ,47 THOUSAND !!!!!!!!! Didn't pay that for my Turbo 911, Thought it was snowing on the poor thing at first, But,,, at least it has air and heat at that price , I have the Pegasus and the Outlaw numbers for mine ,, Wife and children have talked me out of them , leave it clean and smooth.

I know someone who had a paint shop do a cut and buff on his brand new VS, and the results were impressive. (I think it was about the same color as this car.)
If I were considering selling at a high-profile auction where bidders are surrounded by professionally prepped cars, I might do the same.

I'm blown away...Buying my bedazzle kit tomorrow!
The paint on the silver car was very nice. Much nicer than I’ve seen on most VS cars. It almost looked like it had extra clear that was cut and buffed. I was never able to find the seller to get any details.

Selling for $110,000, looks like we don't know very much, Bill!
I'm dumbfounded...
Did it really sell for that?? If it did we are starting to have the same thing happen as on the stock market with things selling at 22-24 times the earnings... or what they are worth... well I exagerated a little but you get what I mean.
$110k for the glitter-bombed car?
What's in it?

I think what we're looking at here is $30,000 worth of Speedster and $80,000 worth of ad copy.
But what do I know? Maybe, when I was ordering my VS, I should have sprung for the Swarovski crystal option. I figured I could always go to any air-cooled VW mechanic later on to have the Swarovski crystals installed.
I am intrigued by this, though. 247,000 crystals in 462 hours averages out to almost nine hand-applied Swarovski crystals per minute. That's pretty quick crystal work in anyone's book - even for the world-renowned Crystal Ninja.
I guess what this and the Starke creation are showing us is that if you stick on enough Swarovski crystals, someone will look beyond the sow's ear and step up to buy a new silk purse.

Dang it, I should have bedazzled it first.
I’m without words here.
I guess I better start checking all the classified sections to see if my VS speedster is listed. If my wife found out someone just got $47k for theirs, she’ll try to sell ours for some stupid high profit
I went into a few "exotic" car showrooms in Miami and Palm Beach that were offering Vintage Speedsters. All the cars they showed me were used, but priced way above the price of a new car. Most were in the $35, 000 to $40,000 range for models that Kirk would sell new for $30,000. When I'd mention this to salesmen they seemed unfazed, saying that their clientele aren't the kind who like to wait. They'd see it, plunk their money down, and drive away happy.
I eventually bought new, but continued to check on the showroom cars which are now long gone to folks with too much money. Hey, good for them.
When a bedazzled car fetches $110,000 .... maybe we should be a touch less critical of others design choices and realize what beauty-is-in-the-eye=of-the-beholder actually means?
Maybe that should be the reply to anyone who is over the top critical "Beddazzling, $110,000" .... I assume some muli millionaire's wife will think it's the cutest thing ever for a few weeks
There are a dozen (or more ) turnkey replicas that sell for more than $100,000.... just off the top of my head....
Nearly any Superformance ..... certainly any Shelby American Continuation........ a ERA........ Race Car Replicas........ nearly any GT 40..... C or D type Jag ....you might be able to buy a Cal Spyder for under $100,000......nearly any of the aluminum bodied cars..... the new Mirage 250 (Ferrari) will be closer to $200,000 ......
There is a market for replicas of the iconic cars of the past .....now that the originals cost millions to buy and are too valuable to be driven much....

And it sold, for $315,700. I think he turned a nice profit on this one.
that is just hard to swallow.....I should be able to get 250K for my IM6 and buy a new one and have 100K left over? maybe not....crazy market...
The correct term, friends, is "Buckelwagen."
I now feel better for what I put out for my IM6...
