The differences are:
- The Roadster has plusher seats that are generally considered more comfortable.
- The Roadster has roll-up windows. With the exceptions of Intermeccanicas, Speedsters have side curtains like the originals.
- The Roadsters have a taller windshield and top.

Most folks consider the Speedster a little cooler looking, but the Roadster is a bit more comfortable. However, at the moment Intermeccanica is the only Roadster manufacturer. They're wonderful cars, but a bit expensive. If price is not a problem, they sell both models.

I've driven my Speedster on two trips with over 1000 miles each, and was surprisingly comfortable - of course I had low expectations ;-). Getting out every couple of hours to fill up worked wonders.
The cabriolet sold by Specialty Auto-Sports (a sponsor on this website) also fits the bill of a "roadster". It has plush seating, roll-up (actually electric) windows, a higher windshield, a mid chassis mounted water cooled flat four "boxer" type engine. You'll wait a long time for one but I would definitely ask John Hallstrand what he thinks about his SAS "roadster".
Hoss, I agree with you that the speedster is the coolest looking.
However, Rick Davis' "D" is probably the best looking roadster, period.
Because of the way Rick and Brenda designed it (with help from Henry, of course!) it is very hard to distinguish the differences between the two.
The higher windshield just blends right in.
