Two years ago, I got wind of a speedster body from CMC still sitting on the shipping pallet in Brooklyn NY. It took dozens of emails before we settled on a fair price and another four months to come up with amutual pick up day. Rocky and I went to NYC in June to drag this back home and had to pick through junk on the floor of an old garage to find most of the parts..short the deck lid and a windshield. Hired a sidewalk full of neighborhood Jamacians to carry the speedster body down an alley and onto my car trailer.
It's a very solid CMC stock configuration in surprisingly in VG shape and nearly straight with most mold makes still there.
I liked the look of the Onyx black with light cream interior I did some five years ago for Al Shapiro so I am doing a clone of that speedster that will have a larger 1915 motor.
In the past seven or so weeks, I've shortened the chassis with all new suspension, adjustable ball joint beam, brakes M/C, 240 Volvo resv. lines and hoses, shortened the shift rod, replaced the coupler and bushing. Now has a rebuilt 3:88 R&P trans, OEM stock mounts, new CV axles.
Bolted the body to the chassis two weeks ago, cut in the door handles, latches, dash gauge and switch holes, dry fit oil cooler and remote oil filter housing, deck lid hinges and latch, hood & hinges, bumpers and brackets, wiper motor and all cables. Took the doors and deck lid over to Randy at the paint shop on Wednesday.
Today, I did a dry fit installing the windshield. Speedster goes for paint Monday night.
Photos attached are what it will look like when done. I'll post a few current photos after it's painted and it may be back from paint before the Pumpkin Run. This one should, be completed and on the road by Turkey Day, then it's on to Speedster Project #22 that's waiting in the wings. ~Alan
