David, If memory serves me correctly, the spoiler/wing was only offered by CMC, a now-defunct operation in Florida. Street Beasts has taken over at least some of CMC's former operation. You may want to contact them. Some members of this list have dealt with Street Beasts, and have good things to say about them.

Don't worry what others think. Style is an inside job. Regards, Jim
I do not have a picture, yet of my Fiberfab Speedster with 'whale tail.' I will try to post one when I get it. I have been told, although I can not verify it, that the Fiberfab Speedster became the CMC Speedster and is now StreetBeasts.

The whale tail has a grill inset in the top for engine cooling.

I notice several negative comments regarding the whale tail. Are the negative comments directed at my Speedster or whales (or for that matter birds, if the whale tail is considered to be a wing.)?
Sorry if I ruffled some feathers. When I heard "wing" my tilt light went on, as I was thinking of something that belongs on a Dodge Super Bee, or the like. Would anybody really like that look??? About taste, there is no dispute. Whatever you do to your car is your business, and if it makes you happy, I'm for that, no kidding. I even had a dream (nightmare?) about my car with a big orange 'T' on the bonnet. I got the required transfusion of orange blood when I crossed the Tennessee border, but I did't know my system had gotten this out of control.

I've thought about putting a small, discreet tail but I'm afraid my car might end up on the "Beaterz" website. If you've never looked this one up its worth a few laughs.

www.beaterz.com/

Search through the many examples of cutting edge automotive styling. I've never seen a speedster there and hope I never do. By the way, I'm not implying that your car with a whale tail would qualify as a "Beaterz". I think that done with taste it could look very nice.

OK, Theron is sort of right, style and your car are your business...I was being hasty/judgemental/opinionated,but those are my better qualities.

Now I see a picture posted of a medium(?)wide-bodied speedster with what appears to be some morphed whale-ish tail perched upon it, I don't know/

Our cars, even in their hay-day, were considered a brick. You put a wing on a brick is it lighter? Will it fly better? I'm sorry, can you say 'Dukes of Hazzard?
DAMN IT DRIVER, and Paul is right. So is Theron and all of you, But not even the 500-1000 WHP 'inport' boyzz think there cool, unless you got 1000-1200WHP. Ferdie was way way way ahead of his time in arodynamick desighn. The first 'tubs' were aircraft. Theron were is the ding damn spell cheak, and the 6translator. know I need German, and Italion, (Giah) Thanks for the sprited site. Doug
Know what you'r sayin'. I got a little pic of a modist 'flaired' spedy taped to the back of a tecks T/box,(wer'e a bit closer then the rest, 'couse he's a 5.0 mustang guy.(if I can't drive a PORSCHE, I DRIVE A FORD),And I have drawn a few pic's with a 'grill' for the water, and iner coolers,(talk inerbreeden,cobra/porsche)Shelby america did a nice rear motormodle. Truth is (pro) unless you are runnin' in the 100mph's, with the speedy body, you are in pretty good shape. maybe a little 'air dam'???? Open minded, never been called bucket head tho ;-)
I hesatate to stay with this after the coments about the 'over the top w/c vw's, and Japanise go fast turbos, but thay ( the 'imports' from japan)are about the same size and weight as our speedys. As ther is no tech mags for us that I know of I take what I can get. So,. as for looks, it seems 'thay' use there wing tail things mostly for looks, as I will explain. Aerodynamics are verry importent lift downforce and drag. Drag Coefficient (Cd) = D/(1/2pVsquredA) D drag p air dinsity V velocity A car frontal aria. The slickest procuction modle out there is!!! YES an '02 NSXPorsche 911, and the venerable?? corvett. Cd's .30 -.29 VW Bug .49 :-(. Messin' with the drag on the speedy would to much , after all it's pretty slick in it present state thanks to Ferdie P., and those Italion boyzz at Giha body works. Ahhh but the lift and downforce are another matter. The rest I'm going to try and keep simple. Slice a speedy, or a supra, or a celica, or or, and you get the profile of an airplain wing. Bernoullis principle states that the faster a fluid moves the less pressure it inparts on it'seroundings. Tharefore the air in this case passing over the top of the car is faster then the air passing underneath. so you get lift. Not good {Now the wingthing, in short these things are for veeerrry fast cars, so say there manufactures. A canded coment from one stated that at 'street speeds thay apply so much down force as to slow you down (stack a pile of bricks on your ventige lugage rack, and you will feel it). He said these were designed for cars doing speeds of 180-300mph (top fuel drags). Hay can't say more about that} But we can increse down force a little bit by forceing the air passing under the car to move faster then the air going over,( not as hard as it seems, we allready have a gaping hole in the middle of our top side)(were we sit). 1. Lower the body 2. use a damn to direct the air around obstructions. This for all intent 'sucks you to the tarmak. Reverse Bernoulli. Enough!! right??
"Actually some of the Brit cars have nice polished aluminum dams that have holes for cooling with stainless screens behind. Very period for the style."

Brian,

Those ARE sort of sweet! I have some tapes of the vintage races at Brands Hatch and a lot of the MGB-GT's have the dam that you mention.

They look so wonderful on the early cars.
When I bought my CMC body, I also ordered a Whale Tail, but, alas, that was one of the few (? LOL) things they neglected to ship to me - ever! Maybe that was a sign, but I agree with someone way up above in this thread, that, on a wide-flared body it might look pretty good. I just saw Ralph Lauren's 959 yesterday, and the whale tail on THAT looks super nice.....

George: my son has a 480 hp (at the wheels, on a dyno) Mitsubishi Eclipse (the famous "Eclipsicle" from last winter). He's been running mid-low 11's at the drags, and has one of those LARGE exhaust pipe tips on it. He showed up at the drags one night with a 3 lb Maxwell House coffee can wrapped around the chrome exhaust tip (held on with tie wraps!!)

Made quite a fashion statement...........

Tim and Alan,

If you have whale tails on your Speedsters that's fine, don't let the negative comments bother you (it actually sounds a little like the originals bad-mouthing the replicas!). Some people like them, CMC sold alot of them. Each to his own! Personally, I like polka dots on mine.

It's been stated many times on this site that everyone has their ideas of what they want to build (or have built) and they're the ones driving it and paying for it. I don't care if you're wearing your whale tails on your helmet, you're welcome at any of the Meets and if you can make it - join us at Carlisle, we like variety!
