I'm a brand new member and interested in purchasing a used late, very clean speedster ( not a wide body ). I live in Maine, and would gladly travel a resonable distance to discuss the pros-cons, advice, engine and options to look for, as well as a brief ride to get a 1st hand experience and discuss the owners car in greater detail. I've owned various 356 coupes years ago as well as all kinds of British cars ( currently a TVR ), but want my wife to also see the car so she understands and can appreciate it. Any advice, emails, pics, etc are all welcome...hopefully there's a speedster owner somewhere near me.

I had hoped to attend the TVR annual meet that was held in Carlisle this year ( with the kit car event ), but unfortunately was not able to attend. I definitely will go in 2008 as I understand that's the best place to see the widest variety of Speedster replicas and parts/vendors.

Thxs in advance for advice and hopefully an owner somewhere in a resonable driving distance to me ( Portland, Maine ).

Welcome!

After you've gotten yourself hooked up with the Speedster info/ride, PLEASE tell us about your TVR!

I love those cars . . .

Luck,

TC

If you want to combine your new and old interests into one,
we have a TVR 280i chassis that we can modify to fit under
the fiberglass Speedster body. It's been set up to accept a
GM engine/trans combination. We were planning on mounting
a Porsche 914 body shell, but could dedicate it to an Outlaw
Speedster conversion.

We'll be getting in another 280i with the stock German V6 Ford engine/trans if you prefer that instead.

The Speedster Shaped envelope is being pushed . . . ACTUALLY I'm doin' my Raby imitation. First make a suggestion, then a recommendation, THEN try to sell 'em something . . . oh, and later, get into an argument.
Doug:

Contact Doug and Gloria Ramisch in Bangor at: ramischw at hermon.net

They were at the Carlisle show this year (and got the Longest distance Driven award) and they are about the nicest couple of Speedster owners you'll ever come across.

The there's Ted Hatem, over in new Hampshire - find him at: TWH8M at aol.com He's a snowbird and may be heading back South pretty soon, as will my wife and me - I'm in Crntral Massachusetts, near Worcester (although my car is a flared fendered).

You might also check out the Type 356 club, as I think they're coming up your way in early October for one of their events. They are mostly original (steel) 356's, but a nicer group you'll never find. Their web site is here> http://www.typ356ne.org/

Good luck... Gordon

Thxs...I sent them an Email and hope they'll be willing to let me visit and talk "Speedster". Maybe Ted in the next few weeks, too.

I also checked out the 356 group and am planning to catch them Oct 8 when they stop at the OwlsHead Museum in Rockland, ME for the Foreign car show....great show, museum, and air show all in one remarkable place.

Just before that show, I'm in Los Angeles and hope to visit JPS and Vintage, and then up to San Fran for a few days visiting friends.
PS: I like "Pearl"....nice car!
Thxs for the quick response...nice forum / nice people!

A thought just crossed my mind (not a long distance, mind you). A number of us are planning a run on the Tail of the Dragon in the Smokies in October. If you felt like you could fly down to Knoxville, TN, or Asheville, NC, and stay a couple of nights I know that you could bum a ride with several of us - maybe even get some driving time. I'd certainly be willing to volunteer. It'd be a heck of an initiation into our own brand of madness.
Thxs, Lane...what dates is your group looking at? I'm in San Diego Oct 9 - 14th or so if that fits I just might be interested in tagging along and getting a major dose of "Speedster" acclimation and all the related knowledge stacked up in the group and cars going.
I'd always wanted to someday do that road in the TVR, and seen lots of bike articles on it, too. Kind of a legend that road ;>)
