Last weekend this Speedster was in the Mecum Anaheim auction:

Anyone know who built it? The manufacturer? Source of the hardtop?

The hardtop looks like a Plasticon top from Fibersteel:

Chuck,
Highest bid was $33K, I believe the reserve was $45K.

Is it just me, or is that a lot for a dressed up car that only has a 1915 and kadrons?
P.T. Barnum was quoted as saying, "there's a sucker born every minute". I think the seller was counting on one being present at the auction. 33K sounds about right to me.
I was there and saw this tub in person...It is a Vintage with some bling, and a very nice hard top, but I wouldn't go further than the 33K bid, in fact I thought 30 should have sold it....but there were many others that should have sold also
After perusing the entire auction results, there appeared to be many cars unsold. Sign of the times? No doubt.
I estimate that 25% of the unsold, should have sold for the high bid..seems
the owners were just not motivated...
That is a sweet looking car,but the engine looks weaksauce to be in a "Carrera"....
My speedster came all "carrera'd out" so I put in a motor that atleast reached/exceeded actual "carrera HP"...THAT would make that a cool car to own,if it atleast had the power to go with the looks.
The average Joe on the street has no Idea what an air cooled motor in one of our tubs should look like vs speed/HP...They look at my 911 shroud and assume it has way more power than it actually has....but it looks cool.....you do need the cool factor...right Jake?
We saw this at Mecum also. It's a Vintage that Park Place Ltd pimped up with details. It was really clean, but underpowered for that price in my opinion.
I love seeing VS going for over $20k used. Makes me feel good about my under $20k VS purchase
Someone pick this baby up for $45k !!!!!
That car had a minimum of $25,000 in paint, wheels, interior, motor upgrades and that odd looking hard top. I doubt they get over $35,000, but anytime a replica Speedster gets sold at a strong price, it's good for all of us.
Exactly, now someone take interest in my reasonably priced ride!!!

People who think just because they spend the money, it should somehow come back to them when they sell whatever it is they built, it's sad really because that usually does not happen. only small
percentage ever realize their initial investment....
I'm thinking a Replica speedster is not one of those that return the initial investment, when you add all that bling....
