My wife recently acquired a 1955 CMC Speedster replica and she can't reach the pedals and I barely fit in the car .  I'm new to this whole replica world, and finding parts seems to be an art un to itself. I read on a 13 year old post on this site that someone had fabricated angled blocks paired with generic rails, which allowed the seat to sit higher the closer to the steering wheel, and lower the further away (which I thought clever).  The car has the typical speedster seats mounted to wood rails. Am I the first person to want to slide the seat or is this just an instance of a funky CMC build?

Yeah, that’s pretty clever and should be a standard feature.

And your wife has great taste in cars…..

Almost ALL CMC builds can be thought of as “Funky” in some way, shape or form.  Even my CMC build.  The build quality had everything to do with the competence (or lack, thereof) of the builder.  Some were great, others not so much.

Anyway, on my CMC I bought a pair of seat sliders from Speedwaymotors.com that had a base included.  That’s important if you want to make sure that the slides are perfectly parallel, but beware - You WILL have to modify the base to sit lower in a speedster.

I still had to do some adapting on mine because, as you’re probably finding out on your wife’s Speedie, everything is custom and nothing fits quite right.   Here’s a link to their seat stuff:

Don’t be afraid to ask more questions.  I may have photos of how I got mine to (sort-of) fit.  I’ll look.

Welcome to the madness, attaching seat rail photos will be of help to see what you have.

@Alan Merklin I'll see if I can get one of the seats pulled off to clearly show the rails. I love the "welcome to the madness" greeting. That's what I feel like I've stepped into. Ha ha.  @Gordon Nichols that's helpful. I'm not used to beating to fit and painting to match, but I'm quickly gathering some out of the box thinking is required on these replicas. Appreciate you taking time out of your days to educate.

My CMC came with the universal sliders for the pair of seat.  You could cut a piece of 5/4" mahogany or oak n a wedge the length of the slide.  With a slope when the seat is closer to dash, it will be higher and when further away lower and a slight rear slant (giving tall/long-armed driver a better driving position. Use large fender washers where you bolt through the seat fiberglass and thru the thin tin VW pan metal.Might not even want to bother with the passenger seat - just set it as far back as desired.
