What is your budget and what are some of the highlights of what you'd like to see; color, air v. water, etc...?

We (Beck) have one used Gen 1 Speedster on consignment here now and have a Gen 2 that will be available int he early Spring.  You can view the Gen 1 under the pre-owned section of our website.  The Gen 2 will likely not make it to a public posting on our site.

Last I heard, Greg at Vintage had one new build available, but was thinking about keeping it for himself as a demo for a while.

LOTS of scams out there, so just keep in mind that if it sounds too good to be true it may just be.

You came to the right place for opinions and internet sleuths, so don't be afraid to post your findings here as you come across used cars.  Likewise, if it is a Beck you can e-mail me with the chassis number and I can pull the file and verify the car.

Be sure to check TheSAMBA, Craigslist, eBay, and Facebook Marketplace. The build quality of "vendor-built" cars is pretty consistent, while home-built Speedsters (CMC/FF) depend on the builder's talents. As Carey pointed out, beware of scammers. Be sure to inspect before purchasing. California has strict DMV laws on registration, so be sure it can be legally registered there. The safest would be one already registered there.

If you want and can afford new, I would urge you to stick to Beck (chines1 above) or Vintage.  Both are known for their support and responsiveness before and after delivery.  That cannot be said for other manufacturers.

If you're looking for used, Carey (chines1 above) and Greg Leach (Vintage) are good resources for cars that have been properly vetted.  Also @Alan Merklin and @Troy Sloan sometimes have cars for sale.  They are frequent posters here and can be trusted.

We might be able to assist you more if you provide things like budget, timeframe, and desired features.  Also, be advised the these are not like a late model Miata in older looking clothing (although the new Beck version is getting closer and closer).  Depending on chassis, drivetrain, etc., you are basically getting old technology and the charm/hassles that come with it.  Some folks love that - others not so much.

I'll reiterate what Carey and Wolfgang said - beware of scammers!

Hi Jimmy, my name is Chuck. I’ve been a member of the forum for a little over a year. I purchased a kit from SoCal Speedsters and it is now complete. Since I’m not Beck or Vintage you may not have an interest. This is the third car that I’ve built and ready to move onto a new project. The engine is a 1915. I’m in the Phoenix area and certainly can accommodate a test ride. Included a couple pictures and can take more if you have an interest. If you would like to discuss, my number is 815-814-5225.IMG_0930IMG_0928
