I'm looking towards purchasing a set of the side moulding kit as per link below. Has anyone installed this kit on their car and if so, any thoughts or problems encountered? I find that these parts; the 'clips' or hardware are often intended for original steel bodied 356's; have problems fitting on our replicas due to the fibreglass being so thick. Thanks for any advice.

The problem with an original side trim kit, as linked, is that on most replicas the door handles bare further forward.  The front and rear spear fit fine.  The door spear needs shortened, and you need an extra piece to cut a custom small piece behind the door handle.  So... you need a full kit, plus 1 extra piece.  I can't say that ALL cars are like this, but I have added enough these kits to several manufacturers cars and they have all been the same in my experience.

As for clips, the metal clips can be used in some places but not all.  the plastic VW side trim clips work just as well and do not require getting to them from the back side, so you can put them anywhere.

Finally, if you do decide to go with this nicer kit, there pieces are MUCH stiffer than the VW side trim most builders use, so you have to shape the pieces to the body before attaching them.  The VW stuff will clip in place and stay, but the restoration stuff has enough spring back that it will pull away from he body if it isn;t shaped to fit.

Hope that helps.

You wouldn't happen to have a spare piece just for behind my door handles would you...I checked it and your right. I need longer pieces for behind door handle.

I just buy the kit from Stoddards or Sierra Madre. Even with my discount, by the time I pay shipping to me, and then you pay shipping to you, you are better off just buying it directly from them. I appreciate you asking though!

I'd be happy to sell you a short piece to cut yourself, or If you give me an exact measurement (or 2 measurements depending on manufacturer) I'll make you the pieces and cap the ends so they look factory.

Re: vw trim. I am terrible with my VW years, but there is a wide and a narrow trim.  You want narrow Beetle sedan trim, which I believe is later model. You want 2 sets actually. You'll cut the doors to length and use 2 long spear pieces from each kit for your 4 front and rear pieces.
