I've been running my car without a spare tire, since i purchased it a few months ago 2006 VS. Is this a common choice amung others ?

I just don't see where in the trunk area, that a spare tire would fit. Is there a solution for this. I do carry a small jack and some tools, so i can at least get the tire off, if needed.

I carry a spare in the trunk of my VS, 145R 15.  Wont fit inflated though its that tight.

I figure if I ever get a flat I'll call the Autoclub roadside service and they will have air and the tools needed to make the change and get me back on the road.

I'd have to put the flat tire in the passanger seat though.

MUSBJIM, what about your spare is it inflated or de-flated. i don't see an air pump included in your list of carry-ons.

Thanks, Art

I copied Jim's solution and the 145 sized spare fits fine with room to spare.  Thanks, Jim.

There have been some posts here that it's better to use the 145 on the front of the car because of the tranny and something about stress with two different sizes on the swing axle

set up.  Can anyone refresh me on that?  Gordon's hint about carrying a large garbage bag to hold the flat tire is a good one for keeping your interior clean.

Boy, as this post goes on, i'm thinking it may not even be worth carrying a spare tire( for me), and i'll just deal with it happily, if it happens.(flat). especially for within 100 mile radius ,my road-side service zone .

I may just get a spare tire and keep it in my garage, then if i decide to take a long road trip, put it in my front hood-trunk.

As long as you have an open differential (I believe a superdiff is still classed as an open diff, but a ZF limited slip is not; don't know how a Quaife would react) in the transaxle it won't hurt it for short drives. I wouldn't run a large discrepancy in tire sizes for an extended period, though. And the large plastic bag stashed away in the trunk is an excellent idea. But I think I said that earlier...

I've got a Centerline 3.5" AL wide-5 and a space-saver spare in the trunk for long trips. It weighs almost nothing, slips down in the nose, and gives me peace of mind. I looked for some time, and have about $200 in the set-up. I'm not  going to run for 500 mi like that, but I'm not going to be stuck on the side of the road either.

Your mileage may vary.
