Looking for a reasonably priced Speedster replica in the US. I do need one that is currently titled as a 1979 or earlier VW in order not to deal with emissions testing here in Maryland.

Not after a project but a running driving example needing cosmetics, minor mechanicals, etc... is fine.

I am in Baltimore but would consider a car anywhere in the US.

Thanks,
Tony Miller heirphoto@comcast.net

Tony,

They're out there but watch what you buy... a minor project seems like a great deal, however some can quickly bite you in the wallet sooner that you think, you're in the lower end ball park of a turnkey.

I come across orphaned speedster projects that usually need a resto or complete assembly. Doing the work myself (as a hobby) the project quickly can creep well into the teen$ for a decent speedter.

If you are a patient person , you may very well run across a preowned turn key in the $14-$17k range.......... Alan M.
Alan,
I sure do not want a project! Not looking for a showcar either. Reasonably pretty, reasonable driver would work. The car I saw today would be an example. One could easily spend few grand getting it back to what it was but you could also leave it alone for a while if you can live with wear and tear on the interior and a few instruments not working.
My background has been with British stuff and I am used to tatty interiors and 50% of the electrical system not working . I don't want one with chassis problems, stress cracks or major engine issues.
Best,
Tony
Stan,
The black one needs quite a bit to be ready for the road. I did e-mail him and ask earlier this evening but too soon to hear back.

The white one is not too bad except the rust area. Is patching a flor or replacing the pan a body off or body on job?

There is a white one on ebay in my area as well being offered through a broker. Been following that one for a week now.

Tony
Anthony,
I have an early CMC kit that I built several years ago. Its a non flared body that has a perfect finish and panel gaps are super. The car has a new 1641cc motor, new interior that includes seats, carpet, door and dash panels. I just installed a new flat4 banjo steering wheel and a Vintage top and curtins. The car also has fluted headlights, bumper guards, carpeted trunk, and full cover. I have owned over 22 speedster kits,so I can honestly say this is a great speedster and good deal at $12,000. Im in West Virginia so Im not far away. Home 1 304 428 6966 cell 1 740 350 0829 The car is ivory with a tan interior and tan top. Thanks
