At last weekend's Mini Tour d'Hoe@Terry Nuckels sported a Miata Windscreen on his Speedster.

Terry's Windscreen

I have several long drives planned with my wife over the next few months. How important is a windscreen for Andie? Is it a permanent addition? If not, how long does it take to put on and take off?

Any other owners have or recommend a windscreen?

Yeah, it was the first time Andie was in the car with the windscreen. She was very pleased! I pushed it down a couple times so she could feel the difference - she was not amused. Definitely worth the very small investment. The wing windows help cut down the wind as well.

It's a pretty simple install on a JPS or a Vintage or probably even a CMC. I attached it to the convertible top pivot bolt. I did not document the installation but if you all can wait a couple days I'll snap some photos and try to give a step by step.

I plan on finding a more functional way to install it - where it could snap out so you could use the top. Right now you have to unbolt it to raise the top.

Just look at that screen! It even looks like a Speedster!

Okay, I want to start out by saying that this installation was meant to be temporary as I just wanted to test the windscreen to see if it would help cut down the turbulence. The temporary installation allowed me to make adjustments and modifications to determine the optimum placement of the screen. Why is it still temporary? Because it works, regardless of the hillbilly appearance, and I prefer to spend my time driving Penny while the weather is nice. I'll develop a better mount this winter.

These pics should help those who are interested in mounting the Miata windscreen to their Speedster. Hopefully someone will figure out a better way and share it so I don't have to.

This first pic shows the windscreen attached behind the passenger seat. It is attached to the pivot bolt on the top frame. The bolt is covered with a cable sleeve. The L shaped rod is attached to the front spine of the top. It keeps the windscreen from blowing forward. _20160915_165805

This pic shows the bolt. I simply took advantage of some exposed threads of the top frame pivot bolt and threaded on another bolt, which attaches to the windscreen hardware. I had to drill out the swingarm to accept the larger bolt. I used split washers at every pivot point to keep everything stationary._20160915_165930

Here's a view of the swingarm attached to the windscreen. With this setup you can adjust the height of the screen.

Well, that's it. Obviously, you have to remove the screen to put up the top. I keep a couple of open wrenches to make necessary adjustments.

Feel free to contact me with any questions. You purists, keep your comments to yourselves.

Good job Terry.  My screen should be here in a day or two.  I'm going to take a shot at making separate brackets mounted to the side wall under the roof frame and figure a way to make it easily removable, all on the cheap.  Something similar to sketch attached.

Excellent idea, Craig! I'll expect a set in the mail after you've tested them out.
