Alright, I'm busted: The "Red Dirt Bawlbagger #2." I think we better put you out front in the bawlbagger caravan. I'll shift into 5th and kick in the afterburner and hope that I don't get airborne. This may be a whole new experience for me. Will you have a radar detector in your new ride? How about an ejection seat?
hh
Ejection seat!!!!!! I knew I forgot something.... Jim there is a slight chance......I emphasize slight...that I may be in Tennessee the week before Carlisle starts and end up driving up to Carlisle with the Hoss also.....now that would be a Caravan. Of course I didn't put a radar detector in, because it only encourages me to go too fast.

We would have to have some luck and good fortune to make it all work out though.
Great job, Alan. Thanks.

Anyone planning to join us at Carlisle, please register early, It makes Alan's job easier. Last year we had a lot of late registrations and increased the block size several times - almost ran out of rooms (or maybe we did?). I hate to wait so will register tomorrow.

We were able to get in some late night bench racing at the Ramada last year but I think this location will accomodate us even better!
Last year we did run out of rooms at the Ramada as the show weekend approached and it was left to chance to come up with rooms at area low end motels.
Considering the thousands that attend the Carlisle auto show events and the travelers that converge off of Rt 81, it's easy to see how Carlisle's dozen or so hotels sell out quickly and usually do months in advance.
Best to be on the safe side by booking early!
Jim

19.5 hrs of drive time & 1266 miles for you to Carlisle.
I just ran it through my truck's "Streets Program 'puter" better than any online map site, also tells the truth :)

Looks like an easy run up onto I-44 East to 55 North to I-70 East into Ohio and picking up I-76E aka Pa. Tpk. getting off at Exit 226 bearing right onto Rt.11 North for 4 miles, passing under Rt.81
.... the Carlisle Hotel is on the Right.

Glad to help in any way I can with anything you may need....

Alan
Alan,

Just some FYI...

Are we still planning on doing some things on Friday? (i.e. crusing)

I just called to setup my hotel reservations and inquired about the 19th (My planned travel day). He told me that the rooms were only reserved for the nights of 20 and 21 and I would have to call the reservations clerk in the morning about the 19th.

I'll post again after I talk with the clerk.

What about registering with the show folks?

Looks like Kevin will be tagging along with me again.

Jerome
Jerome,

If I recall correctly, Carlisle Productions begins taking the show reservations some time later this month.

The 20th and 21st are the two nights in the reservation package.
On all of the eleven Carlisle show weekends the hotel rates go through the roof hence, you arrival in Thursday the 19th should be a true bargain, for that night anyway.

No cruise scheduled we figure that most participants will be arriving during the day on the 19th.

I am looking into returning to Rods Road House Cafe' again on Friday night.

I'm happy to announce the second annual SpeedstersEast Meet is on as part of the 2005 Carlisle Import/Replicar Nationals in Carlisle, PA! The date this year is May 20-22. Last year Carlisle was the site of the LARGEST Speedster meet EVER - 45 attended from all over the east coast - and this year is expected to be even bigger. Also, the same team is together again with Alan Merklin as co-coordinator, hotel and Saturday night dinner organizer plus Barry Fuchs is back as our webmaster extraordinaire! And we'll be looking for a few volunteers to be the leads for caravans of cars driving in for the Meet. I think everyone who participated at the 2004 Meet will agree this is the can't-miss Speedster event of the year. An on-site swap meet, dinner cruises, give-away car, free seminars, entertainment, SCCA closed-course racing, Speedster manufacturers, a big turnout of other makes and models of replicars and manufacturers, a foreign car meet, a variety of great on-site food choices, drawings, tons of bench-racing and more. Details to follow as we get closer to the event so stay tuned.

Remember - May 20-22 - don't forget to plan ahead and schedule an extra day or two off so you don't miss any of the fun.

Drive 'em, trailer 'em, tow 'em but get them there somehow !!!

Do you own a Spyder - they're invited too!!!

Life is short, enjoy the drive,
East Coast Bruce
Meet co-coordinator

According to the Carlisle website they are already accepting registrations for the show! We all need to register using the same club name so everyone use "Speedsterowners.com" when you register. Remember, if we get 25 registrations or more Carlisle will again erect a tent free-of-charge which was great to gather under and gave shelter from the SUN! Also puts us in the running for the largest club turnout.

Go here and click on REGISTER: www.carsatcarlisle.com/schedule/import/index.asp

Cost is $15 for the weekend at Carlisle, no entry fee for the Speedster/Spyder meet. Please let me know when you are registered so I can keep a count.

Who's planning to be there Thurday night/Friday morning?

Kevin and I can both get the extra day off and would like to do some cruising. I'd love to hook up with some other "early birds" to see the PA countryside Friday morning.

Hey Bill, maybe you can hook me up with a good route, or better yet join us!

Personally, I thought Kevin was more smitten by the Brubaker Box van.

Jim, you've got to make the Carlisle trip. I've got to meet you! Besides you will go down in Speedster history by being the first guy to drive to both meets. Also, you would be a shoe-in for the longest distance award!

Jerome

PS: I'm registered!

I made my hotel reservations today. May will be here before you know it!

I went back today and reread the recap of last year's meet. If you want to reminisce or, hopefully, get motivated take a few minutes and read it:

speedsterseast.home.att.net/images/eventpix/review/bruce01.htm

You might want to take another look at all those Speedster photos while you're there too!

BTW, we're planning on doing t-shirts this year so leave a little room in your closet for a t-shirt or two. Hope to have an update on this in the next few weeks.

Lovely knees guys.
Driving big truck for 30 plus years causes a case of "flat-ass".... in the trucking industry, it's a well know disability having a positive benefit of visual magical powers that draw women from near and far:)
Well you and Bill have "bigger ones" than me for show'in those knees.
I ran track through out school and now for National Security reasons hide my bony knees at all cost with the exception of exposing them out while out of the country on vacations :~)

Funny how original posts tend to go a foul and take many left turns !
Carlisle ' 05 Hotel Reservations:

Gentlemen and the ladies too, start your engines !

This year we are "moving on up" to the better neighborhood less than a half mile from last year's stay at the Ramada LTD.
While the Ramada is a great place to stay, we found it to not have an ample gathering place to socialize and minimal parking .
I have checked into several area hotels and have selected the
"Hotel Carlisle" and Convention Center.
It's a large hotel facility that is set back off the interstate for a more peaceful nights accommodations.
The hotel's the amenities include an indoor pool, sauna, hot tub, billiard room (3 tables), restaurant that is open until 10pm and a bar that remains open until midnight or later upon advance request.
Our cars will be parked in a well lit area near each individual room.
There is also ample on premises trailer parking, an improvment from last years, across the highway trailer storage.
As we did last year, I have combined the SpeedsterOwners.com and the New Jersey Replicar Club groups to get the best rate possible for a car show weekend in Carlisle.
Based on the number of rooms occupied last year, I have secured a block of 35 rooms for Friday May 20th and Saturday the 21st.
The usual two night minimum stay applies, the room rate is $107 per night dbl. occupancy plus applicable tax.
It's in the groups best interest to book early, this will allow for additional rooms to be secured early on if needed and avoid a last minute scramble for rooms.

Reservations are made directly with the Carlisle Hotel under the resevation named as :

New Jersey Replicar Club/Speedster owners.com

PLEASE DO NOT BOOK RESERVATIONS ON LINE!

Call *DURING THE DAY * Toll Free: 1-(800) 692-7315

IF you encounter any problems than ask to speak to Connie Cunningham

Your reservations must be made no later than 30 days prior to the show weekend hence the hotel will release the block of rooms on April 20th.

Please inform the hotel if, you require a smoking room so that they are able to make available any non smoking rooms that are not utlized.

Any questions, please check with the hotel or email me

The night after the group dinner, Jerome was following us to find the Go-Kart place and we made a wrong turn off the main drag and almost immediately found ourselves on some of the prettiest, windiest back roads you could want a Speedster on.

Doing a cruise one night to find more of those roads (especially after the stick-straight roads here in South Carolina) would be neat. Count me in........
