Hello, my name is Fred Hurst of Southern Aircooled Classics. After a 10 year affair with water-cooled Porsches I'm rediscovering my roots and love of Dr. Porsche's air-cooled engineering. I am a 3rd generation air-cooled VW driver/fabricator-builder/mechanic. Since the 1950's, VWs of all shapes and sizes have always graced my family's garages-truely an air-cooled heritage. From my grand-father I learned to appreciate the old-world practicality of teutonic engineering. From my Dad I gained an affection for racing, speed and the lovely sound of an "enhanced" horizontal-4 at full tach!
A long term vision has started to take shape and is coming to life. I am in the process of formulating a plan to build a limited number of cars each year for a select few. These Speedsters, Speedster-Carreras and Spyders are to be made by order and will be based on a steel frame chassis with stainless flooring. They will recieve all the benefits of my personal expertise and affectionate attention.
I am especially pleased to announce that these classic reproductions will be equipped exclusively with the dyno-proven engine combinations of Raby's Aircooled Technology! Jake and I have discussed at length specific engine packages and transaxle options that will be available for pure wind-in-your-face motoring enjoyment! Other RAT advancements such as the type I DTM and "squishy" technology are also eagerly anticipated for use in these Southern Aircooled Classics cars.
