What part of NC are you coming from? You might want to meet up with the southeastern caravan for part of the trip.

Hi,
Where is the Southeastern Caravan going to be meeting/driving?? We live in Coastal North Carolina by Camp Lejeune.

We all start from different points, but meet up in Christiansburg, VA on I-81, if not at meeting points along the way. I come from Charleston, SC. Nolon Scott comes up from FL. Gordon Nichols (if he joins us) may come up from Beaufort, SC, unless he's already at his summer house in MA. Jack Crosby comes from Hot Spring, AR. Leon Chupp comes from Gainesville, GA. John Hallstrand comes from just west of Knoxville, TN, and Tom Raymond comes from Johnson City, TN. While Christiansburg, VA may be a bit far west for you, it does make day two of the drive much easier and more fun.
I don't have a map handy to see just how far out of the way that would be. Are you planning a 1 or a 2 day drive?

I CAN'T MAKE IT!
Wheels fall off again ? Bwaaahahahaha
Spyder Girl,
I live in Lake Lure,NC and just took a look at N.C.map. Looks like going from Camp Lejeune you will travel I-40 to Winston-Salem then over to I-77. I'll be traveling with the group provided I don't hold them back. I have to stop ever hour or so to exercise my new knee. I plan on meeting up with the group firs rest stop outside Statesville on I-77 and then on up to I-81. Be sure that you are not traveling to far West to meet up.
Just a reminder to make your Wednesday night reservation at Christenburg, VA

Aaron,
Yes Winston Salem is way on the other side of the state from us. Looks like we will just have to see everyone in PA!!!

Just glancing at the map, if I wanted to hook up with the convoy, I'd drive from Richlands to Richmond VA and camp out there on or near I64 Wed. nite. Looks like about a 4 hour ride.
The distance from Christiansburg to the I64/I81 junction looks to be about the same as is Richmond to I81 via I64. If both groups leave about the same time Thurs. morning you should meet one another at the I64/I81 junction. A few rings on the cell would help.
Make any sense?
Just sayin'

Of course then again....If Train A leaves the station going 40mph. and Train B leaves....oh....never mind!
This of course is while Bill, Chuck and myself all converge on Carlisle.... a half hour ride for us. ~
....with a head wind!

OK, Lake Lure is only 212 miles from Christenburg, Va. Again, What is the Southern caravan schedule and average speed from the South. Checking to see if a one legged man can keep up.
You know, your best bet is probably to find out when Jack, Tom, and John Hallstrand are meeting in Johnson City for lunch, and hook up with them there.

Spydergirl, there are half a dozen of us in Baltimore who will be heading up Thursday. You're welcome to come up this way and ride in with us.
Plenty of places to stay, too. Our casa is su casa, as they say.

Lane,
Johnson City is way North and West of me. Best bet is to go straight up to 77 then 81. I plan on getting my usual early start. Christiansburg is only 212 mile drive. I'll have time to stop, walk and enjoy myself. Never know...I could get lucky!

Thanks Cory for the invite. We are leaning towards trailering as the Spyder seats are not comfortable for long periods of time. If we cannot find a trailer then we will be driving and I might take you up on your offer!
Check out my speedster specific trailers in my files.
Sgl axle, full diamond plate deck, stake pockets, and three ramps.
I have them custom built, they can be pulled with a smaller pick up such as a S-10 or a smaller SUV as the empty weight is only 750 lbs. They cost about $1,800 here in PA. ~Alan

Darcie, glad you are coming. That means at least three Spyders, and maybe we'll get Matt to come too. Cory's wife Teresa is aces, but keep your eye on Cory(sorry dude, couldn't resist!). You'll be back after you meet all these characters.......

I'm mostly harmless.
For anyone, not just Spydergirl here, who is coming North along I-95, we're a minute or two off 95, and honestly do have plenty of room.
We're planning on leaving for Carlisle on Thursday morning, probably around eight.

Thanks DrClock for your trailer info. We already own a 22 foot Toy Hauler for hubbys race bikes. The problem is the Spyder is one inch bigger then the vehicle compartment. :( we are talking to people in our local car club to see if anyone will have something that fits Spydey. The biggest problem is most have the split wheel decks and the Spyder wheel base is very small. By the way your car is beautiful!!

Danny,
Besides me and you who is the third Spyder?? Yes Matt needs to come so we can have four!! that would be great!!

Lenny Curcurredo (sp?) has a nice one that he's brought the last few years.
SG, I believe that the rear clam shell when it is lifted it shortens the overall length, then find a way to secure it in the open position...not too hard to do. Not sure who but I think Lenny Curcurredo has done this . ~Alan
Al,
Would'nt that create an awful lot of wind resistance? Like a parachute!

SpyderGirl - while you're cruising the show grounds at Carlisle be on the lookout for this nefarious group. If you do have the misfortune of encountering this motley crew, slowly put your egg-sammich down and RUUUUUUUNNNNNN...

How come the Pacific islander is the ONLY one not wearing a Hawaiian shirt?

AL I assume that they have an enclosed toy hauler ?
Former Member
Wouldn't you have to take the pipes off, too?
Former Member
The Toy Hauler is enclosed. We have lifted the clamshell, pulled the car in frontwards, backwards and done everything possible. The problem is since it is a Toy Hauler the Spyder comes up a few inches too long against the bathroom and kitchen area. Trust me, we have done everything we can think of and unless I want to crack fiberglass, it is not going to happen.
