SO,  tomorrow early AM I'll drain some gas so it doesn't shoot out the screw holes replacing the float gasket, screws and O rings that somehow I had on hand.

Had the same problem last year. My side side curtains were wrapped up and in the trunk, gas leaked and ruined the plexiglass. I found that the Chinese threads are minimal and probably cut with a wooden tap dipped in metal oxide.

I bought new screws at the hardware store and its still holding but I would like to remove the sender and adjust it to match my low reading gauge, just afraid that if I remove the screws it won't hold after I remove it.

Solution if the threads don't hold on the tank???

Dunno about the winter, but I like the fall idea.  Saturday was darned hot, and the last of the drive home today was sweltering.  Here are a few pics of the scale of Carlisle for those of you who missed it.  That's us around the green and white stripped tent in the first picture.  We now comprise the majority of the kit car/reproductions since the Cobras gave up and went home some years back.  The rest (pics 2 & 3) are the imports.  Lot's to see.

Hey Bruce!  Was the "It's a warp." comment a typo or a comment on The Madness.  If it wasn't the latter, it certainly should have been.  Thanks for another great year.

Those conversations have occurred Marty, back in the days when Import/Kit was on Mother's Day weekend.

Here's the deal...

Carlisle Productions wants time between shows to give the grounds time to recover. These are the main events on the fair grounds in 2016:

  • Spring April 20-24
  • Import/Kit May 13-15
  • Ford June 3-5
  • GM June 24-26
  • Chrysler July 15-17
  • Performance July 22-24
  • Truck August 5-7
  • Corvettes August 26-28
  • Fall September 28 – Oct 2

You can see, there's really not many places they could move the Import/Kit show to. And the Import/Kit weekend is very small potatoes when compared to their other shows, so it's a guarantee they won't swap us with one of their other shows.

It is what it is...and likely isn't changing.

I go to the Chrysler show too. For what it's worth, I prefer cooler temps in May with a chance of rain to the 95 degree 95 humidity days we typically get for the Chrysler weekend.

Robert;

When I was in high school, the early 1960's, it was appropriate / cool for young sweethearts to exchange St. Christopher medallions.  I don't know the cultural origin, I guess it was to prepare us for the journey forward.  Now, I wish I had saved mine.  As your post, illustrates they were traditionally blue with gold .

Cool, thanks.

What a great Carlisle gathering---thanks to Bruce, Norma, Wild Bill, Cory and everyone who made it so special for me and Alice.  Truly a highlight of our year. Thank you, thank you!

We left Hot Springs, AR Tuesday, 5/12 and got home after 10 days.

We rolled into Hot Springs yesterday at 4 PM after the Caravan to Carlisle with Al Shapiro and the others gathered along the way, then to Arlington, VA Sunday after the event to visit our daughter's family then to Raliegh, NC to visit son, Russ and his crew and the two day drive home ending yesterday.

The entire trip was 2,685 miles using 91.8 gallons of 93 octane and 1 1/2  quarts of Brad Penn. Average MPG for the entire trip was 29.2 mpg with the 249 mile run from Carlisle to Raleigh  showing 30.1 mpg. The car ran flawlessly running an average of 70 mph to Carlisle and a bit faster to Raleigh with some 80 mph sections as the desire to get home increased.  We weren't  passed very often and ran effortlessly with the speed of the interstate traffic. The Verdestein tires still look new after many thousands of miles on them. They are perfectly balanced with a good front end alignment and that is paying off in ride comfort  and tire wear.

My Speedster now has 45,874 miles on it and has never run better. The "new" Raby Type IV engine now has 23,000 miles on it. Before replacing the binding C.B. Performance carb linkage with a new C.B. linkage, plus synching and tuning the Dells, I planned on 25 mpg  but the extra 4 mpg gives another 32 miles range per tank which is a nice cushion--like adding another one-gallon capacity to my 8 gallon tank.

On the trip I listened to audio books of Killing Patton and the French Revolution plus some Chicago and Allison Krause on the iPod which made the miles pass faster.

Great seeing all my Speedster buds and we can't wait for Carlisle, 2016!

Hey Hoss---you were sorely missed along with musbejim and Marty---I heard that from quite a few people. It was a great time and the improvement to the raffle was a big plus.  One $10 ticket to a customer---period.  Made it go very fast.  I scored a 20 year old bottle of Irish Whiskey generously donated by Al Shapiro who also donated  one of his wonderful Speedster Hawaiian shirts.

I got a bacon cheeseburger at Aubreys.  What a great spot---we will plan on you as well as Nolan next year for Aubreys and Carllisle.

I don't think there was a single SAS at Carlisle this year after some previous good representation.  Next year for sure.

I missed seeing John Steele---he was such a great help 2 years ago showing me how to waterproof my Speedster.  Crawled all over the floor to point out places under the car.  Really above and beyond help with my Vintage to make it roadworthy.

Hope you and Sarah are doing better with the bug you picked up on your european trip.

Finally got some time to log on here and post. What a great weekend!

Left Wednesday morning to low 60s and sun, after a nice breakfast with Lenny at my local diner. I drove my car and he towed. New transmission acid test, I wanted to hear how it was doing, and you can't here it if you are towing it. Temp dropped to the upper 40s and spritzed on me near Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Like usual, I don't get it, but it seems to be a weather black hole of sorts. Then once we got to Ravine, the sun cam back out and it warmed up. Transmission was shifting well and eerily silent. New wheel bearings and brakes ran cool. No parts fell off either! Got to the hotel around 3 and hung out with Al and Heidi and Cory and Jeni. Great times, good evening.

Thursday, parked my butt in a chair and watched everyone roll in. Always wanted to do that, and it was worth it. Very relaxing.

I had a most excellent time with old friends and new, thank you to all.

Had an especially good time thrashing Toni's S2000 on the autoX, what a well balanced and FUN car to drive. It drifts like a CHAMP!(Toni NOT liking that part in the passenger seat!)

The trip home was mostly uneventful, until I pulled off the interstate. You see, someone(me) didn't snug down the flexible hose to the slave cylinder and I lost the clutch. I was only 7 miles from home, so hitched a ride and came back with the Audi and my towbar. Got it home and was relaxing with a beer in short order. Too bad I had to go to work Monday! Tightened it up and bled it and all good to go.

Today I'll dump the trans oil after I get it warm, it has less than 700 miles on it.

I returned 27.7 mpg on the trip to Carlisle, lots of construction slowdowns so I think very good mileage.

Thanks to everyone who did anything to make this happen, it was a hoot. I am also a fan of how Bruce and Norma changed it up a bit this year, great job! See you next year.

Correction.........

Jack, the  20 year old bottle of Irish Whiskey was donated by Craig Reddick,my roommate.Kudos to Craig for his jumping right in and becoming one of the newest "Carlisle gathering knuckleheads"! He had a grand time and enjoyed meeting and talking with everyone. See ya next year, buddy!!

Great to get back into the fun and frivolity that is Carlisle! RUBY ran like a swiss watch. Flawlessly! Round trip was a little more than 3200 miles. It was my treat to include some very good friends in our journey. The drive to Carlisle was quite the bomb! Jack and Alice are absolutely a thrill to travel with! Jack had every and all imaginable tools in his car,to be able to repair or replace just about anything. I know he saved a few people's necks by having just the right parts onboard! Thanks for the use of your wheel balancing disc.

Al--thanks for the correction on Craig donating the Irish Whiskey---my mistake and many thanks to Craig who fits right in with this group of knuckleheads.  Looking forward to seeing the Car that Craig ends up with.

I was able to lend Kelly a new coil Sunday morning which Danny troubleshot to find out why Kelly's car was not running.  So glad I could do that otherwise I lugged a bunch of stuff for nothing.

What a fine time---it always ends too soon.

Somebody donated a bottle of Crown Royal too. Reluctantly about a fifth of it was left behind as the last of us went into our rooms early Sunday Morning. Shame...I feel shame...  ;-)  Had a great time at the show seeing old friends and meeting a few new ones.

Ed Ericson did a rockin' job on his Soob installation into the MG.
