SPEEDSTERS MEET SPYDERS AT CARLISLE – MAY 15-18, 2014

FOLLOWING ARE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEKEND:

THURSDAY, 5/15:
- Early arrivals all day.
- Photo session in the hotel parking lot before the evening cruise.

- Evening country cruise to the Caddy Shack restaurant for dinner at the Armitage Country Club. This is the eleventh year we’re cruising to the Shack and it’s ALWAYS a fun drive. We’ll enjoy the same great food and friendly wait staff we’ve become accustomed to. www.caddyshackrestaurant.com

- Back at the hotel we’ll be bench racing in the parking lot or partying in the hospitality suite (BYOB and snacks)

FRIDAY, 5/16:
- Morning country cruise through the rolling back roads of central Pennsylvania to the Carlisle fairgrounds where we’ll register for the weekend, walk the grounds, check out the swap meet and grab something to eat. Bring your camera; you won’t want to miss all the photo opportunities!
- Join us under our club tent, we’ll be there enjoying all the sights and sounds of this event. Many activities are happening all day long at Carlisle; check their calendar and the program in your goodie bag for event details of the day.
- Photo session in the hotel parking lot before the cruise.

- Afternoon cruise to a tour of the National Civil War Museum overlooking Harrisburg,           Pennsylvania.

- After the tour we'll head back to the hotel for something new this year – Restaurant Free For   All.

- After dinner plan on socializing and partying in the hotel hospitality room (BYOB and snacks).

SATURDAY, 5/17:
- Our big day on the show field (aka the “Fun” field) at the Carlisle Import and Kit Nationals.     The biggest event of its kind in the country!
- Morning “Egg Sammiches” reunion at the Carlisle High School Marching Band food booth    (under the grandstands).
- Join us under our club tent, we’ll be there enjoying all the sights and sounds of this event.  Many activities are happening all day long at Carlisle; check their calendar and the program  in your goodie bag for event details of the day.

- Group photo on the Carlisle grounds from the Carlisle sky crane.
- When the busy day at Carlisle draws to a close, we’ll head back to the hotel, take a quick    dip in the pool, freshen up, don our Hawaiian shirts and meet up in the parking lot.

- Final photo session in the hotel parking lot before cruising to dinner.
- Gala awards dinner at the Radisson Hotel Harrisburg for our annual travel awards festivities  and drawing. Don’t forget to wear your Hawaiian shirt!!

- Then we’ll head back to the hotel hospitality room for the “Speedsters Meet Spyders” annual  raffle of donated parts, products, goodies, and memorabilia. Followed by more socializing  and revelry (BYOB and snacks).

SUNDAY, 5/18:
- Long distance folks begin to leave early, die-hards remain at the show field until the "Last  Hurrah"
- Morning “Egg Sammiches” at the Carlisle High School Marching Band food booth.
- Activities are happening all day long at Carlisle; check their calendar for events of the day.

Keep in mind, this is a meet and not a competitive show, if you can get your Speedster, Coupe, Cabriolet or Spyder there - regardless of its condition - bring it. There will be awards for the longest distance driven by a Speedster and a Spyder and the longest distance trailered by a Speedster and a Spyder and the longest distance traveled by a Coupe. And you're welcome even if you can't bring your car or are still shopping for one. Come on out and join us, we’ve had as many as 65+ cars in attendance and this may prove to be our biggest year yet! Watch this thread for updates and announcements.

Other than your Carlisle registration, Civil War Museum tour and Saturday evening awards dinner you don’t have to pay anything else in advance – just pay as you go. (Checks or money orders please, sorry no Paypal).  One exception: we ask that everyone bring a contribution (new parts, products, goodies, memorabilia, etc) for the annual raffle held at the hotel Saturday evening.

 

One last thing: PLEASE complete the RSVP form (see below) and let us know the details of your plans so we can plan accordingly.

I am getting a PO Box so will post the address to send your checks/money orders to tomorrow.

 

Please send payment for both the Saturday awards dinner as well as the Museum tour to me.  The museum asks that tours be prepaid with a single payment to avoid a logjam at the entry desk so I will give them one check for all attendees.

 

Payment for the Saturday awards dinner and the Museum must be to me by May 2. If you have a change in plans and must cancel out of either function I will be able to return your payment up until May 9 but, due to commitments, cannot after May 9.        

This may be the wrong place to ask this, but I'm a rebel.

Will there be shirts? I won't be able to attend the actual event, but I'm always on the look out for t-shirts from fun events I didn't attend.  I get to live and relive the moment like I was there.

Not sure what the souvenir is going to be this year.  Cory and a few others are putting their heads together in a couple of weeks.  A new thread will be created to cover that when a decision is made.

Bruce: What time do we meet up on Saturday for the Gala Dinner? I have an iron in the fire that may interest some others and timing is important. I will illiterate later when and if the plan falls together.

 

Bruce--- John needs my car in his JPS booth until 4pm Saturday, fri til 3 and sun til noon-- so can you estimate the timing on the events-definitely want to participate-thanks,jerry

Jerry, probably the only thing you'd have to ride with somebody is the Friday cruise.  You'd have your car for Friday & Saturday evening activities.  On Saturday, during the day, we're all on the Carlisle grounds anyway.

Following are "tentative" times for activies: 

 

Thursday, 5/16:

5:30 PM –Cruise from the Courtyard Marriott to the Caddy Shack restaurant. 

6:30 PM –Dinner at the Caddy Shack then return to the Courtyard Marriott

  

Friday, 5/17:

8:15 AM – Ruralcruise (optional) from Courtyard Marriott to Carlisle Fairgrounds

9:00 AM – Arrive at Carlisle fairgrounds for Egg “Sammiches” Reunion at the Carlisle High School Marching Band food booth (under the grandstands)

Meet at our tent on the Carlisle “Fun field”

Seminars, activities - check the Carlisle schedule for events

1:45 PM –Cruise to the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg, PA. from the Courtyard Marriott .

4:30 PM – Leave Museum and return to Courtyard Marriott

5:30 PM – Photo session and drivers meeting in the Courtyard Marriott parking lot

6:00 PM –Dinner “Free For All”

  

Saturday, 5/18:

6:00 PM – Leave for Radisson Hotel Harrisburg

6:15–7:15 PM – Cocktail hour, Radisson Hotel Harrisburg

7:15 PM – Gala Awards Dinner in the Radisson banquet room

9:30 PM– Annual “Speedsters Meet Spyders”Raffle in the Courtyard Marriott hospitality suite
