All Carlisle Import/Replica event-related info - INCLUDING REGISTRATION INFO - can be found on that site.  IMPORTANT! When registering, please specify your club as “SPEEDSTER OWNERS”, this helps us to get our own tent erected on the showfield for the weekend and the more registrations the bigger the tent!

What's happening during the weekend? The Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals weekend has MANY things happening import- and replica-related so check their website, watch for updates, and sign-up to receive their emails. In addition to Carlisle’s activities we’ll be fender-to-fender at the fairgrounds during the day plus doing cruises, dinners, the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center, raffles, giveaways, bench racing, partying, and more from Thursday through Sunday. Come for the day or enjoy the entire weekend! You can expect to meet many owners from all over the United States and Canada and probably other parts of the world as well, plus meet the top Speedster and Spyder manufacturers and see their products.

There is a pool at the hotel for your relaxing pleasure and a connected hose outside to wash your ride.  Also, if you have space, bring your lawn chairs for socializing under our tent at the fairgrounds or on the parking lot.

For anyone arriving without a Speedster or Spyder, you may order event pass tickets for the weekend either on-line at the site noted above or simply buy event tickets when you arrive at Gate 3 and don't forget to tell tell them you’re with the “SPEEDSTER OWNERS” club.

Good morning, all.

This sounds like a fun weekend... but a few questions as I have never been to one of these, and don't want to embarrass myself.

  • Kid friendly, or way to boring for a 10 year old son???
  • Do you guys attend this as a club, or simply make a reservation and go on your own???
  • Will I embarrass myself in her current in-process condition, or should I wait a year until I have things pretty well pristine???
  • Replicas or actuals???
  • Where do the cars stay overnight???  Covered???
  • I've never owned a vintage or collectible car before, and certainly nothing that took this much work and care to show off.  I certainly don't consider myself an expert auto mechanic or restoration buff.  I would consider this an educational experience and learning opportunity, with lots of associated questions that you all might burdensome.  Is this the appropriate forum for that???

Just thinking out-loud as I ponder participation.  Safe to say the Madness has set it  for me.

Any input appreciated.

  • Kid friendly, or way to boring for a 10 year old son???

Your son may have a good time, but usually there are not that many children there.  If he likes cars, he may really enjoy himself.  Wives/friends/partners are all welcome and some do come along.

  • Do you guys attend this as a club, or simply make a reservation and go on your own???

It's a club thing, and we all register with the hotel and with Carlisle.

  • Will I embarrass myself in her current in-process condition, or should I wait a year until I have things pretty well pristine???

Any Speedster in any shape or form is welcome.   You will probably get a lot of your questions answered, and a lot of unsolicited advice from the group.

  • Replicas or actuals???

Very few of us have actuals (they are no fun to drive), but it's only replicas at the meet.  Some of us drive our daily cars if our Speedsters are not mobile.  All cars are welcome.  We even have one nut who drives an NSX.

  • Where do the cars stay overnight???  Covered???

The parking lot of the motel is pretty safe - no problems have any been encountered of which I am aware.

Oh, yes, you can ask all you want, and you'll get a variety of answers.  It's a great group.  No one is snobbish or affected (well, some are somewhat weird, but that's okay)

Come along and have fun.

ScottieD, oh please . . .  you worry too much.  First and foremost, this is not a snooty group by any stretch, and yes we do attend as a club, holing up at the Marriott as a group, commandeering their parking lot, taking over the place from Thurs through Sunday. And there is no need to be concerned about your car.  The deal is to bring it, regardless.  You will get a lot of attention (hopefully not too much) and advice/recommendations/etc. about it.  No chance for embarrassment. Kid friendly??  Well, perhaps.  The showfield at Carlisle is a BIG place, and will be even bigger this year with the "tuners" in attendance.  There might be some down time when the adults are busy going on about their cars and such, but I'd bet a 10 year old, if he has any interest in cars whatever, will have a good time.  We are all replicas, which is not to say that some real P-cars might not be there. That said, the true rank and file Porsche folks tend to eschew this event as beneath them, and not their cup of tea, or schnapps, and so do not attend as such.  Education/learning? Absolutely.  As I said, you may get more of that than you can handle.  All to the good, however.

We do our thing as a group with cruises and tours and dinners, and hanging out at the hotel, except for the BIG DAY Saturday at the showfield.  Again, you worry too much.  Read the info from Bruce Stumpp about the schedule of events, make your reservations and get there early, which is to say Thursday PM.

Hope to see you there.

Scott , you will not embarass yourself .   We've all tried to do that ourselves and it doesn't work.

The event is kid friendly and if your 10 year old likes cars he won't be bored in the least.  We've had several members bring their kids and they have always lots of fun.

We attend as a club and have our own tent on the show field. You can hang out with the gang or go off on your own.  Free country and all that.

There are cars of every make and model, real and replica and a flea market for parts , tools and stuff that you just have to have.

The cars stay at the hotel at night with us.  The parking lot is secure and I don't think we've ever had a problem.

As I've heard before,  it's like a family reunion, except you like everybody

You can submit your car to the Carlisle organizers, if you want it to be judged.  I've never done it, and I think most of us have neither.

As for non-judging, yes, we are very non-judgemental...we enjoy each other's cars as they are.  Each of has our dream of what we want our car to be like, and we all share in that.

The hospitality suite in the hotel is where many of the guys gather in the evening for a few drinks (if you're there single, it's easier), and some enjoyable cigar smoking goes on outside.

All in all, it's a great time.

Scottied,
Come and join us, I don't think you or your son will be disappointed.   I've had my 2 year old grandson there (he's a 13-year old car guy now) and he really liked looking and riding in the cars.
If anyone is coming just for a day or several days, staying in the host hotel or not, coming to the awards dinner or not  - please complete an RSVP form and send it to me at the email or US address provided up above.   That gives us an idea how many will participate and we'll have printed name tags ready for you and any guests who accompany you.
As for judging, we don't do any of that.  This is a gathering and not a competitive show. We will have awards for the longest distance driven and trailered  and a few fun awards (busted knuckle, etc.)  so bring 'em no matter what they look like.  This is a fun weekend.
For you and others who may be interested, there is also the possibility of caravans being organized heading to Carlisle from various directions if you would like to travel with others.  You will probably start to see those threads starting in the next few weeks so stay tuned.  I know there is always one starting in Arkansas, traveling through Tennessee, etc.
You'll make friends that will last for years.  Hope to see you there!
Drive ‘em, tow ‘em, trailer ‘em, but get them there somehow!!

Scottied - I've flown from SoCal to Carlisle for a few years and have enjoyed each trip immensely. Awesome group of folks, cool cars, fantastic scenic drives and good times that ends too quickly.

Here's  video from my last visit in 2013. I joined my knucklehead SOC friends to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of this annual gathering.
