5/18-21Speedsters Meet Spyders weekend...only 30 days away!
Come on out and join us, always a super gathering of Speedster/Spyder/MG lovers.

1. Friday morning countryside drive and riverboat cruise - During the Friday morning countryside cruise we'll board the Pride of the Susquehanna for a river cruise. The Pride is an authentic, stern-driven 120-passenger paddle wheel riverboat and includes narrated details of the unique history and ecology of the Susquehanna River and Harrisburg. The charge for the cruise is only $10/person. Bring your camera, you won’t want to miss all the photo opportunities!  Details are included on the RSVP form.

2. Saturday evening awards dinner - This is always a fun evening when long distances traveled and a few fun awards are presented. The food buffet is always delicious and plentiful. Attire is casual and tropical/Hawaiian shirts are recommended. Please, due to required advance catering head counts you must get your checks/money orders to me by May 1. The cost is $40.00/person for a full dinner buffet and that includes the service charge and tips. The menu and details can be found at the top of this thread.   Mail yours to:

3. Saturday night raffle - Other than your Carlisle registration, riverboat cruise and Saturday evening awards dinner you don’t have to pay anything else in advance – just pay as you go. One exception: we ask that everyone bring a contribution (new parts, products, goodies, memorabilia, etc.) for the annual raffle held at the hotel Saturday evening. Proceeds from the raffle help to cover expenses incurred during the weekend.

4. Hotel reservations - If you're coming for one night or all three, a block of rooms has been reserved and a special rate of $126/night was arranged at our host hotel – the Courtyard by Marriott in Mechanicsburg, PA. The rooms are going fast and the reduced rate is only available until April 18 so don't delay. Hotel information is attached. Please, be sure to make your hotel reservations early!

5. All-new VELOCITY TV Show Filming at Import and Performance Weekend

From Carlisle management: "For the first time in many years, a national TV audience will see what Import & Performance weekend is like at the Carlisle Fairgrounds. Via author and car collector “GT Joey” Limongelli, be part of the experience as he hosts a show called Legends of the Design. Gain your 15 minutes of fame at Carlisle and brag to your friends that your ride is now "as seen on TV."  This new program will showcase the tasteful automotive designs of the import world throughout the years. Further, it’ll debut with Limongelli (and you and your car) on Velocity later in the fall. Season 1 features 10 episodes, including at least one, maybe two filmed at the Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals, May 19-21. Register today so that you can not only be part of our show, but possibly his too!"

6. Korean cars are featured at Carlisle this year
Each year, the show field at the Import & Performance Nationals (IPN) features a different theme and different country. In 2017, the event will showcase Korean vehicles of all makes, models and years.

7. Experience a Life of Luxury - Building T to Host the Crème de la Crème - Import weekend will feature luxury and luxury-inspired vehicles in Building T. From the classic comforts of the early ‘30s coach-built roadsters to today's modern VIPinspired stylings of the modern import realm, all will be featured as part of this unique display.

8. Race-prepared Vehicles on Display - The paddock is an annual highlight area of the showfield.  The race car paddock is reserved exclusively for imports and performance sport compacts that are set up for racing including road racers and autocross to drag and rally cars. See the cars as part of a true garage display within the pavilions on the east side of the grounds.

9. Free instructional and informational seminars announced by Carlisle
Schedule to be announced soon.

10. Low car limbo - IPN is taking a cue from the Caribbean on how they will determine the lowest car or truck at the show. Instead of measuring from the driver door or the roof, they figure the best way to see who is lowest is to make them limbo. There will be a vehicle limbo bar set-up in multiple increments. Each car and truck must make their way under the bar without smoking tires and without knocking the limbo bar over. The last vehicle not to knock off the limbo bar wins! Last year we saw MG replica owner Ed Ericson almost win this event! And we suspect the Spyders could also do well in this contest!

11. Caravans – Do you like to travel in a group? There are caravans forming to travel to Carlisle from several directions. None started from your direction – start one of your own! Details are available on www.Speedsterowners.com in the "Events" section.

Additional details and updates can be found here:

What is a Speedsters Meet Spyders at Carlisle weekend like?  Here are a couple of examples:

That's it for now. Keep in mind, this is a meet and not a competitive show, if you can get your Speedster, Coupe, Cabriolet, Spyder or MG to Carlisle - regardless of its condition - bring it!  There will be awards for the longest distances traveled by a 356, 550 and MG and a few fun awards. And you're welcome even if you can't bring your car or are still shopping for one. Come on out and join us, we’ve had over 50 cars in attendance and this may prove to be our biggest year yet! Come out and join us, you won’t be disappointed!

Drive ‘em, tow ‘em, trailer ‘em, but get them there somehow!!

THE MARRIOTT HOSPITALITY SUITE
A big part of the weekend is meeting old and new friends and socializing. The hospitality suite will be located on the first floor to the right of the lobby and many of us will be gathering there every evening. To say the hospitality suite is jumping in the evening is an understatement! Stop by, even if you’re tired, don’t miss the gathering there. We've even had some celebrity sightings in the past so don’t miss it. The party starts around 9:00 PM and goes to ???.
BYOB or favorite beverages and some snacks and join the party!
 AWARDS
Awards will presented at the Saturday evening awards dinner.
They will be a little different again this year, here are a few and there will be a few surprises too:
Longest Distance Traveled to Carlisle -356
Longest Distance Traveled to Carlisle - 550
Longest Distance Traveled to Carlisle - MG
Busted Knuckle - For the owner who suffers through the most mechanical issues over the weekend.
Other awards to be announced at the Saturday evening awards dinner.
CARLISLE REGISTRATION
If you registered early with Carlisle you should have already received your window sticker and "goody bag" pickup letter. Before you forget, put the sticker on your windshield and the goody bag pickup letter in your car. Having the sticker in advance will allow you to drive right in Gate #3 without having to go to the registration building. If you did not receive your sticker in the mail, all you'll have to do is stop in at the registration building right outside Gate #3 and complete registration before entering the grounds. Contents of the goody bag will include the Carlisle weekend booklet with their schedule of activities, seminars, etc. There is a lot going on all weekend including many displays, swap meet, cars for sale, seminars, multiple bands, an autocross, a free shuttle to scoot you around the fairgrounds and more so check it out.
THE FAIRGROUNDS TENT AND SEATING
For the new people - when you enter Gate #3 of the Carlisle fairgrounds just continue to drive straight and follow the curve of the road to the right - you can’t miss our tent and our bright banner. Plus you won’t miss the crowd of Speedsters/Spyders/MG's. We have reserved some chairs for everyone's use under the tent but if you have space - particularly folks who are driving in their daily drivers - it would be helpful if you could bring folding chairs or a blanket to lounge on.
EGG "SAMMICHES"
If you've never been to Carlisle you have to sample at least one of what the Speedster/Spyder folks lovingly call an egg "sammich" from the Carlisle High School Marching Band eatery located under the grandstand. You'll see recommended times on our schedule for getting yours so join us for this annual tradition. BTW, the breakfast platters are an alternative to the sammich and are feast too. The eatery is staffed by band members and all proceeds go towards the marching band activities so it's for a good cause.
GALA SATURDAY EVENING AWARDS DINNER AT THE RADISSON
If you don’t know how to get to the Radisson we will have a caravan leaving from the Marriott around 6:00 PM.  We will again park in the lot behind the hotel. We will have door prizes, no purchase or donation required. One other thing to remember about dinner…suggested dress is casual with a recommendation to wear your favorite Hawaiian/tropical shirt.
ANNUAL SATURDAY EVENING RAFFLE – WE NEED YOUR DONATION(S)
For the new folks in the group, we don’t charge a registration fee for the Speedsters Meet Spyders gathering but every year we hold a raffle of items donated by the attendees as a fund raiser to cover the miscellaneous weekend expenses. This year we'll again hold the raffle after the awards dinner. The raffle will be held in the Courtyard Marriott hospitality suite at approximately 9:30 PM. Please consider bringing a donation for the raffle in the form of new parts, memorabilia, books, art work, car care products, related items, etc. Tickets will be sold in the hospitality suite just before the start of the raffle. It's always a fun time and great things to win so plan to join us and please don't forget your donated item. Note: Please hold on to your raffle item(s) until Saturday evening after dinner, then bring them to the hospitality suite.
ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES ON THE SCHEDULE - THE AUTOCROSS & DRIFTING, VEHICLE LIMBO CONTEST, SEMINARS, POOL PARTY
Autocross: Around 10:00 AM Saturday and other times over the weekend, a few of our resident knuckleheads will take a shot at the Carlisle autocross. There is a super vantage point to watch from the hill overlooking the course so stay tuned and we'll post the times on the tent “Announcements” sheet when they're known or check your Carlisle event guide.
Vehicle limbo contest – 3:00 PM Saturday in front of the grandstand there will be a vehicle limbo contest. We think our Spyder and MG owners have a real good chance of winning this one!
CARAVANS
If you like to travel with a group, there are a couple of caravans coming from the south.
Here are the threads on the Speedsterowners.com forum if you are interested or post your own:
WHAT TO PACK
If you’re wondering what to pack for your trip, one of our long-haul drivers who is driving his Speedster all the way fromArkansas – Jack “Iron Pants” Crosby - has documented a very complete list:
If you find this list a bit much you might want to consider a somewhat smaller list suggested by some: a cell phone, a AAA membership card and a major credit card.

This is expected to be another fun, full weekend and we're looking forward to meeting for the FOURTEENTH year. Any questions?

That we're anxious to see everyone again and meet some new folks is an understatement. We'll see you in Carlisle!
Drive 'em, trailer 'em, tow 'em - but get them there somehow!.

Cheers,
"East Coast" Bruce
