All you Spyder drivers in the east (or elsewhere, for that matter), please consider joining us on our fall Smokies trip this October 15th and 16th. After having done the Tail of the Dragon for several years, we are planning this year's fall tour in Asheville, NC. One day will be spent touring the Biltmore mansion and grounds, with the other(s) devoted to enjoying the incredible roads in the Smokies. At this point we plan to get to the Biltmore early enough to line the cars up in front of the mansion for a photo shoot. The cruise day is still being planned, but it is likely to involve a drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway toward Boone, one of the most beautiful drives on the east coast. There should be plenty of unplanned time for those who want more challenging routes. Aaron White has mapped out some VERY curvy routes in the Asheville/Lake Lure area - some that make the Dragon look tame. We are still in the planning stages for meals, etc., so if you are familiar with the area and have ideas, please post them here.
Depending on the length of your particular journey to Asheville, you might want to make it a longer visit to be worth the drive. I certainly plan to, and I'm only 4 hours away.
I have reserved a block of rooms at the Hilton at Biltmore Park for $179/night - an incredible rate for the peak season in Asheville. This is a nice new hotel in a very nice area with plenty of parking.
