When I got my car about a year ago the brakes were shot. I replaced the master cylinder and rubber lines. I have bled the brakes till the cows have come home and gone again and still have a soft pedal. If I pump the brakes they work fine but its not an ideal situation. I seems like there is not enough travel for the brake pedal to function properly. The pedal seems to hit the steering system before it bottoms out. I adjusted the rod on the master cylinder but that caused the brakes to lock up. Any ideas?

I was trying George's suggestion about adjusting the brake rod (he was right by the way, it was too far in) when I realized I just thought I had replaced the rubber lines. They had been sitting for years with old fluid in them and needed to be replaced. Four steel braided lines later no prob. Thanks for the help.
