An aquaintence of mine had a fair size shed burn to the ground during the recent cold snap...
He said he had not been in the locked shed for quite some time and could only assume it was "spontaneous combustion".... The fire inspector pieced it together rather nicely....
The shed had 2x8 and 2x10 shelves on cement blocks and during its life had collected numerous dead auto batteries and a couple of bottles of acid used for cleaning the pool and other cement areas.... At some point in time, the stuff froze and the containers split dumping sulphuric and nitric acid on to the wooden shelves, where it sat busily making nitrocelulose..... What actually set it off is anyone's guess..... (Be assured it didn't take much at all.)
The giveaway clue was the pronunced BANG as the fire started....
