I bought a set of adjustable spring plates from Serranos. They have no instructions and I have gotten thoroughly confused.

1. Does the adj. screw point up or down, ie: which plate is for the right & left?

2. When I removed the stock spring plate, the torsion bar came out w/ it and I lost the original position of the torsion bar. Is there a "home position" for the torsion bar? The bar is marked with an "R" and a dot opposite the "R".

3. The inner flange of the adj. plates is larger in diameter than the stock. It seems that the stock rubber bushings are going to be a real bear to reinstall. Is there another bushing that I should be using?

Thanks, Chuck

Chuck, the screw gets adjusted from the bottom so it will be pointing up. Make sure you have the right bushings for your type of chassis (IRS or swingaxle). To get the spring plate in use two longer, smaller diameter bolts and install them diagonally so that they can go through the housing and cover and use some nuts with washers to press the cover close to the housing so that you can get the factory bolts on the other two holes. The Bentley book tells you to use a level/compass to set the spring plate. Set it as per the book (I've seen anywhere from 17 to 20 degrees from horizontal depending on model year). Don't get the torsion bars mixed from one side to the other as they're designed to only turn one way. Good luck!
Thanks Ricardo. I found a post on the Samba that greatly simplified the process. Leveling the car on the jack stands takes 1/2 of the math out of the process and as Jimmy Buffett sings: "Math Sucks". I finished it up today and she is now level at all 4 corners. The adjustable spring plates a great idea. I would not want to repeat this process again anytime soon.
