I have uploaded a couple of pics of the door hinge I designed and fabricated for my Northstar Spyder.I had previously posted how I was disappointed in the hinges that came with the perry kit. Some suggested bolting the doors shut and just jumping over, and with a spyder that is truely an option.I really wanted however to design a quality door hinge and set about the task.I show the finished product in the photos so that anyone wanting to build their own might benifit. In the photos, the black part is the completed and assembled new hinge.Since everything is black,it is difficult to see detail so I also included an early iteration(disassembled)to better show the detail-those are the two parts in prime. Also included are the original perry components(grey). The new hinge really worked well.It is two weldments joined by a .375 in tight tolerance pin. There is no slop or play and the total weight is 3 lbs.

Hey John. Sweet set of hinges. I really like the look of these. I have a 718 and the trouble I am having is a very limited space to put a hinge. Just so I get this right, this hinge is actually in front of the mount surface like a limiter ??with the hinge actually retracting into the door post so that the pin and barrel are out of sight correct??. If so, sign me up, are you producing them or do you have a tech diagram you can offer so I can make them. I need to look but there may be roll cage behind hinge mount surface on the 718. Let me know.

Hi Roger.Sorry but I'm not trying to sell these hinges, just thought a pic would help someone in fabricating a set for themselves. I am a consulting engineer(among other activities) and if I were to charge my hourly rate for the time it took me to design and build(I fab at a very slow deliberate pace)these hinges, the cost would be laughable. You are correct, the whole hinge bolts to the front side of the forward door jamb and all the working parts are out of sight.Although this generic approach should work for many applications, the precise kinematics would have to be refined from application to application.Hope this does not discourage you but again I was trying to help members rather than build and sell parts.
here are some hinges on a car that is in the build process now (Beck Lister-Corvette).
Chuck Beck built these hinges in about an hour from a piece of aluminum angle that was laying around the shop. Very simple, very light but function very well. The pins in the pix are only for mock-up.
Here is a link for some "store-bought" ones
