How come you guys call it the "left" coast instead of the west coast?
I am looking forward in driving my Spyder in the LA area. I can't wait. Don't worry, I will be extremely careful.

um, cuz it's left of middle...

the west coast is the best coast... if it weren't best wouldn't rhyme with west. =D... I can't even say how much I want to know what the deleted message said

Guido,
When you look at a map of the USA, California is on the left.

H-m-m-m-m-m-m...A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that I was located in north Georgia...Now I wonder if some of you guys read that and started hearing banjo music and thinking of "Deliverance" ;)

Hey Terry, are you located near "Chateau Elan" Winery & Resort in Braselton, Georgia? I was there for a week a few years ago when I went down to "Road Atlanta", The Panoz Racing School. I even met Mr.Panoz himself.

Guido,
What do you mean "expecting", they are already here

Guido...Yes, I'm in Dahlonega...About 45 minutes north of Chateau Elan and Road Atlanta. I have spent many a weekend over the past 30 years at Road Atlanta and like you, took a driving school there once. I've never met Dr. Panoz, but appreciate what he has done for that track and the sport in general.

hey back to the original topic. Does anyone know whether the vintage handles better than the beck. I know the vintage uses coil overs instead of the beck style trailing arm, do the coil overs prevent wheel tuck? thanks for the info

Theron,
He did it again! The reference to my fellow Italian Americans in the above post would have to be considered no less demeaning and insulting than his earlier reference to our African American members.
I thought this forum was about Spyders.

Matthew;
I think the wheel tuck issue is due to the swing axle rear suspension geometry which is used by both Beck and Vintage. The only difference is the way the springs work. The Beck uses a torsion bar spring much like an original and the Vintage uses a coil over shock spring more like a modern race car, but the rear geometry is the important factor in wheel tuck. The issue of handling really only comes into play when driving the car at the cornering limit in a racing situation. If you are just leisurely driving to the corner store to pick up some milk, you will not notice the difference in a swing axle versus a fully IRS unit. I am sure a Beck set up for racing can "handle" better than a stock Vintage and vice versa.
And you will notice I did not call anyone any names. ;)

Ken,
I happen to be an Italian/American myself and very proud of it. As a matter of fact, I was born in Italy and moved to the States when I was a small child a long time ago. There's nothing wrong with joking around a little about our heritage. They do it all the time in Movies, and in TV series such as "The Sopranos", which is based and filmed here in New Jersey. Relax brother. Live and let live. Peace.
PS: Your last name means "Twins" in Italian.

Be careful on wet/slippery roads, Matt.

Oh trust me Guido, I've learned that lesson.

What do you mean Matt, why, what happened?

back when I was 17 and had my MR2 it had just rained so the roads were damp and i was out drifting. I drifted around this one corner letting the tail hang way out, I lost control and the car went up a curb cracking the front end. That day taught me to be cautious of wet roads, and the importance of limited slip differentials.
Former Member
Spyders have no limited slip differentials, so be extremely cautious when driving your Spyder in wet weather.

A Quaife, Torsen-type, diff is indeed available for the swing axle trans. The only caveat is you must have a 3.88 or shorter ratio. It will not fit with the 3.44 ratio. About 1300 bucks as I recall.
