It's started ! Went down to see Greg at VMC and picked up the first piece of my car today. The rear firewall.. I'm taking it home to veneer the engine compartment side with 22ga engine turned stainless steel. The circles are 1.5" and the cost is $300.00 for a 48" X 48" sheet. This is just enough to cover the full width without getting into the sides flanges of it where it curves forward to mate with the body sidewalls. This is the second half of sheet I used on my Speedster firewall. (48" X 96" originally)
Tomorrow I will lay it out on poster board first then trim to fit. Then I will trace this pattern out on a big sheet of 28ga galvanized sheet metal from Home Depot roofing section ; cut and trim this to fit and then plan where I will slice and bend it to fit the firewall. This may take some soldering and the real SS sheet would/will be welded. If I have to weld, I will talk to a guy who is really good at stainless and I have seen his work where his welds show but there is little no discoloring adjacent to the welds. I would refer to not weld so we'll see how this plays out. Here's a couple pics. One id kinda boring because it's the stainless with the plastic protective sheet covering the engine turning. This covering stays on until the firewall is totally installed, glassed in, and undercoated. Then removal and BRILLIANCE !!.........................Bruce
