I sure enjoy my Speedster, but man how I want a Spyder!
🤙🏼 Great video...
great video! thanks for sharing. Given our cars barely come up to the door handles of most cars, I'm too much of a wimp to drive mine on the city streets. My BMW is currently in the shop because someone was too distracted and merged right into me as I was sitting in traffic in my lane. I'm confident no one would look down to see my speedster.
Anyone notice the NYPD turn in behind him and hit the gum balls at about 1: 58 ???
That would seem to be a "ticket" in the offing, but is most likely a car loving cop with a WTF moment.... Had it happen to me on several occasions....
Yeah, and then they call 3 more and they all come just to take a look
Meh, what a waste to drive that car, or any of those cars in that garage, in the city. It's just a fashion accessory at that point.
Love this vid, and the production values are ace. That bridge shot from overhead? That's either very nice (and illegal?) drone work or a helicopter shot.
My rejoinder to Carlos: if you don't like turning heads there are a lot of very fun, lower-key cars you could own, many are cheaper and most handle better. Nobody gets a Spyder to "blend in;" they are all, in some sense, "fashion accessories." Also, getting in and out of Manhattan in any car can be an adventure. Think of how much more of a rush the next back-road trip will be after this!
Naw, I disagree, it's just another kind of high! Some of us don't get to choose where we live. Enjoy the ride.
I really think a spyder in more than a fashion accessory. I've owned lots of nice sport cars including a Caterham 7, a Boxster S and an MCoupe. My spyders could keep up with any of those cars. I would agree that a spyder is one of the most beautiful cars on the planet and maybe I would give the spyder the nod over the Caterham for looks alone but don't kid yourself, a spyder IS a performance car. I could keep my spyder in the Norfolk/Va Beach area if I wanted to make a fashion statement. I'm keeping it in the Va mountains so I can let it rip.
I bet its the only car that people would allow you to merge in with it's blinkers on...
In 2000 I was driving my 1999 Vintage spyder through town. Cop pulled in back of me turned on his lights and pulled me over. He stayed in his car and I could see he was calling it in. I might have been going a little fast but not real fast. He got out of the car as another cop car pulled in. I asked him, with my licence and registration in my hand, what the problem was. He calmly said that there was no problem. He and his colleague started asking me questions about the car. When I figured out that they just wanted to see the car I started opening the rear bonnet to show them the type 1. They started to get a little nervous since anyone could see what was happening on tax payer dollar time and they wished me a good day. I thought to myself...that was pretty cool.
I don't understand the video. I can't imagine a Spyder in NYC. The rear clamshell is cracked along the lower edge, as you can see very early on with the shot from the rear. The soundtrack is beyond irritating.
A Spyder SCREAMS "California", or Lime Rock", or "Stelvio Pass". NYC?
Odd.
Maybe the "fish out of water" thing is what they were going for, but I'd be awfully paranoid in NYC traffic in something that small.
