Just thought someone would want to know that Michigan roads can cause a Speedster to squeak.

My wife's Speedster, now officially known as ELSIE, (formerly known as NACHBAU), had developed a squeak that got steadily worse over the past week. It was coming from the left rear wheelhouse area. So as a new owner we had to go buy the rhino ramps and creepers to get under the body and using a technical combination of "push it up n down honey" and "if only I can get my finger in the spot thats making the noise" we finaly traced it down. Turns out it was not the frame coming apart, it was not the riveting and screwing of the body to the frame, it was not the rear knuckle on the swing axle or any other things that people with real knowledge would have pointed me to.

It was the RR brake line that had bent in toward the fiberglass inner of the wheelwell and was rubbing up n down every bump we hit. Root cuase was the way the line wrapped around the shock strut whenever we hit a michigan pothole (ie turn your lights on baby!), the sshock ws pushing down a bit on the brake line and for every action there is a reaction so the upper loop of the brake line would pull intoward the body and viola, a squeakin speedster!

With a little gentle bending and nudging we got the line sorted, test drive Including a few medium potsholes) showed no squeaks and once again we have a very happy wife! So little ELSIE (good German name) is at home and waitin for more attention.

I do not expect the aboive thread to go anywhere, but I am curious why women need to "name" their cars? Any thoughts on that. Any good "guy names" for your speedsters?

Ron (aka Sniper, Snipes, Snipester, Gutter _____, )

Thanks Ron; I'll check that. On another note to address your and Troy's thoughts on the names; somehow VW's of all kinds (and of course most of our Speedsters are) are endearing to their owners. Even the way their front ends look (Bugs, Transporters, Ghias and of course 356's look like they all have a smile on their "face"). Not at all like the new Bimmers and other new fancy European cars that look like they're pissed all the time; must be on purpose, to give them that "aggressive" look.
