Squeek !!!!

Hi Folks,

Any tips on silencing a squeeky CMC?

Drove over to the trimmers yesterday and it squeeked and creaked all the way !! Its not the mechanical bits, deffo the Pan/body interface. When I mounted the body I used a beetle pan gasket and loads of Sikkaflex sealant.

Any ideas where to start looking?

Have someone shake the car from from side to side and up and down while you go squeak hunting. But im wondering if your car has a cab frame glassed in corectly . 1/4 inch holes can be drilled to poor in resein to troubeld spots can be fixed under your carpets thatyou can pull out while your fixing it..

But Start by greasing your front and rear suspencions((( FIRST!!))) to rule that completely out..

Do you have rubber gaskets sealing the doors? CMC build manual specifies fiberglassing the body to the pan too (along all the edges).

Oh adding more big headed aluminum rivots in deprived spots will help too. i had to do that on my passager side near the door jam was missng a coulpe

Ahhhh.....I didn't do any glassing between body and pan....figuring that this would only cause issues when the car leaks...

Sounds like fibreglass on metal. I'll employ a shaker first, see if I can track down any edges that can be trimmed back first.

No trim work done yet, still a bare shell. I fitted the side trim yesterday....Them trim clips are the work of the Devil!!

Your car must have come from the same build lot as mine.

I've got a similar squeak. I've tried squirting oil in and around wherever it's squeaking and sometimes that cures it........for a while.

Other times, I just turn the radio up.

Sir Lance O Lot couldn't dance a lot because he rust in his pant a lot..

In any case check into the cab frame and see what VS is using if you find anything very differnt , make some renforcments that bolt in tigher to the rear k I added a L bracket back to the rear shock on both sides to the rear frame rails and welded them in..

Also I squirted some black urethane sealer in some of the crannys I had concerns with where glassing it wasn't possible. A little here and there does help stiffin it up when it sets firm..

had the same question 6 months ago when I purchased my CMC
SQUEEK SQUEEK SQUEEK on down the road !!!
I was able to get rid of 90% by using a spray can of "white grease" around the rear suspension, while repacing the rear shocks, I had the rear tires off and had great access to the rear suspension.

Yea, I thought of that, too.

Gerry! It might be coming from the torsion arm (spring plate) rubber bushings. The VW book tells you to lubricate them with talcum powder but I've found that CV joint grease works one hell of a lot better, and for longer periods.

Gordon thats perfect. I added grease zurks and have been using the blue grease but I can get the CV grease in tubes also Its a better grease for that.. has tefflon in it..

Only probrem the car must be on a lift to grease them the point straight down and no roon for the 90 degree type..
