I look forward to new ventures in this niche car field.  The more interest it generates the better.  We've all seen demise of Kit Car Magazine.  And fun to drive new cars are disappearing - first manual trans and eventually even being able to steer a car and hear roar of an engine! It takes courage (and $) to start up a new custom car company.

I'm w/ Stan... let's wait till 10/20.  This could be a really cool project.  There is a but for every seat.

MAYBE ONLY ONE or TWO BUTTS.....not enough

For the LIFE OF ME, I cannot find any redeeming value in this pursuit....if you want a BOXSTER/CAYMAN or (?), its available. Their cars do NOT look like a 50s/60s SPEEDSTER/ROADSTER nor do they look like a BOXSTER/CAYMAN/911.....despite probably performing like one.

So....they need to find a BUYER, that somehow-some way decides to buy a NICHE car that does NOT presently exist.....ANY OF US will know with certainty what it is NOT, and essentially WHAT IT IS.....and WHAT IT ISN'T.

Even for a few split seconds....a number of old timers look at my car and say, "WOW haven't seen one like that in 40 years"(of course as mine was built in 2008) but it brings back memories and fills a void.....I would assume that many of us embrace for similar reasons....AND it is fun

I am sure there are a HANDFUL(5 plus?) that will buy almost anything for any reason but WE SHALL SEE.....MAYBE.....if it comes to fruition and if it somehow creates a new niche. It largely reminds me of FORDS attempt to bring back the 50s 2 seat T-BIRD... and we know how that went....anyone who wanted a 50s T-BIRD could find one and they still sold 68,000 over 4 years but FOMOCO has resources to sustain a MISTAKE

I suppose we'll see.

My thoughts regarding demand: we don't see it, because we are dedicated to what we've got. I'd bet there's no small amount of people who'd like something modern with a retro vibe. Witness BMW Minis, VW new-beetles, Chrysler PT Cruisers, Chevy HHRs, and to a somewhat lesser extent Ford Mustangs, and Chevy Camaros. This is just like that, only with tiny production numbers, so that you'd likely never see another one just like yours. That's worth a lot to some people.

I'm gonna' stand by my earlier post. If this guy delivers a car in a month, he will be ahead of his original target. Regardless, he's done what we asked, and not carpet bombed this site 6 months out with different colors on the same photoshop renderings.

I'm not in the market for this sort of thing, but I'm guessing there won't be a shortage of people who are. I'm not a flared-car guy, but apparently there are a lot of you who are. If that's an acceptable variation on the theme, this should be fine as well. Let's give this guy the same chance.

It's a big tent. Not as big as I thought or hoped, but there's still room for somebody with a different interpretation on the theme.

I'll go out on a limb and say there's probably a greater demand for this than there is for the ridiculous cars that we drive.

Yeah, it's the same modern retro idea as the new MINI (which they've sold more than a few of). It may not look as cool as the original Speedster, but I think it looks a lot better than a Boxster. And I think that was the designer's idea. If you can get one out the door (including the donor car) for under $80K, I think there's a substantial market.

I still don't know how they're going to engineer this properly for anything close to that money, but if they can, it's a bargain.

I have a 2009 MINI and love the thing. Fans of the original car hate them because they're not a simple upgrade of the original car. They're something altogether different. But they're probably the closest thing on the market today to the old 2002 I drove for over 20 years. Nice finish, great handling, adequate power in a small, tight package, and at a reasonable price.

Give the guy another six weeks and we'll know if he's a magician or not.

Thats a BIG LIMB...a SUBSTANTIAL MARKET for a USED CAR @80K...????????? That approaches the insane,...NO warranty? FANS of the original MINI can complain all they want as they sell THOUSANDS every month and most UNDER 30K with new car warranty.....and INCREDIBLE performance/comfort/FUN!

These are USED/ABUSED BOXSTERS.....likely NOT under warranty or VOIDED as per STARKE SURGERY for 80K? I CANNOT grasp ANYTHING SUBSTANTIAL other than the "MISTAKE" index

There is NOTHING about STARKE that fits "reasonable price" ?.....for WHOM?

A BRAND NEW IM6.....with A/C, power windows, 300HP flat six, leather, 911 suspension, brakes, STEREO,  have been available for YEARS and LESS THAN 20 ever built...WHY...demand/price point/wait time(VERY BOXSTER LIKE in performance or BETTER)

ANYONE wanting BOXSTER type performance  HAS BEEN ABLE to buy it for YEARS and the DEMAND has been very small. GRANTED, IM does NOT advertise IM6s LOADED to compete with BOXSTER so they apparently have not attempted that level of MARKETING...nor are they set up fro cranking them out for the masses.......BUT the product has been available..CERTAINLY TO ALL OF US....

BUT LESS than 20 EVER BUILT........

Well, I think $80K is a fair price for a clean, refurbished Boxster with a warranty, IF it's been completely customized and rebodied and finished to the level depicted in the artist's renderings.

Compare this to the prices paid for any custom coachwork done right.

Consider what it will cost to completely re-engineer the folding electric top, or the leather interior, for example.

That's just me, of course. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Despite price being FAIR.....WHAT will the demand be for an 80K replica/non-replica/revolutionary car? How many folks are going to DROP 80K on an off brand pseudo PORSCHE?

Well, the devil's in the details, of course.

If these cars are engineered and finished well enough to attract the carriage trade, cost is less of an issue than it would be for working stiffs like me who are forced to settle for $30K plastic cars.

The value of exclusivity for its own sake has not been lost on builders like Porsche that charge exorbitant prices for glitzy options mainly designed to distinguish your Boxster from your neighbor's. Uh, I notice, Fred, you didn't go for the Brembo Dazzle and Sport Package. The wife and I don't know what we'd do without ours.

I'm very happy with my Speedster, but I wish nothing but success to Stärke. I'm very much looking forward to seeing more. I think Mitch is right. There is a surprising market for well crafted autos in any shape or form. This one looks to tug on a lot of nostalgia. If this was available before I bought my speedy (and on budget), I guarantee my wife would have encouraged me toward a Stärke over my VS. Of course some will agree with the naysayers here, but that's true of any car. Count me in as optimistic and hopeful.

I'm with Stan and Mitch (and Ryan), here, interested in seeing a finished car and how it's received. While it's not in my "price range" I hope there's a market for what they build and that the venture is successful. I understand your pessimism, Banzai, but the population has shown support for weirder things, so let's wait and see what they've got. And if it turns out to be bullsh*t, such is life, but I really do hope they produce a car. We'll know what the story is in a month at the SEMA show. Al

You van get into a VS for under 30K, and some others: CMC/BECK/IM for 15 to 100K depending...but thousands of replicas out there and most of us cannot fork over 60 to 80K for a REPLICACONCUSSION MUTANT....and a "GREATER DEMAND" than a 25 to 30K VS(new to almost new???)

With respect, your zealousness against the Starke concept is a bit over the top. We get it, you don't like the business plan, the general vehicle design, the overall business concept or the proposed pricing. You don't understand the mindset of those that might find the whole idea intriguing.

But why not do as several have suggested? Wait a few weeks and finally see the finished product in the flesh when you can criticize what Starke actually produces

I liked it when the tent was bigger .....

Does anyone know where I can get one of those LITTLE WHITE BAGS that they keep in the airplane seat pouch?

Tough room.

You'll have to forgive Mr. Banzai. A Starke gave him a wedgy in junior high scool and scarred him for life.

It's the only thing I can think of that could explain the man's unreasonable hatred of something that does not affect him in any way.

OKAY...I give up...................I'll take TWO: one in LIME GREEN, the other in TRUMP ORANGE....both must be TIPTRONIC with HUGE BREMBO calipers and RADIO DELETE so that I can hear myself crying(LOL) when AAA pulls up

LOVE TO ALL....sorry guys...it just rubs me the wrong way but HECK...BRING IT ON

I'm gonna try again this year to attend the SEMA show. I'm looking forward to checking this car out there......Bruce

I hope you go....send back pics! Body, interior, engine bay, everything

PS

I'm sure there are tons of people who think spending 30-40-50 on plastic tubs is crazy too....they're probably right

For that matter, maybe spending 50K+ on ANY toy is indefensible but it's not their money right? I think that's the point.

Will Starke buyers be welcome here without criticism of their choices?

REMEMBER GENTLEMEN: STARKE starts at 60K and DOES NOT include price of DONOR CAR.....so you are LIKELY at 73 to 80K on DAY 1. SO with a discriminating EYE and/or BUDGET, 50k+ is dreaming......you are at 40% above in a WINKY DINKS WINK and that is with a questionable donor car. There are ONLY a HANDFUL of the SOC fleet that approach those numbers out of a few THOUSAND.

When a gentleman, who recently purchased a new VS suggests that his wife might steer him towards a STARKE.......his budget has MORE THAN DOUBLED...and is a wink away from TRIPLED........so LET'S BE REAL....

These are APPLES and ORANGES...NOT APPLES and APPLES
