Stabilizing Bar for VS

Has anyone experienced sway in front of your VS at 60 miles per hour?
Is it a qestion of unstable bar under the front axle ? help

Wandering at 60mph is probably caused by: alignment, worn steering box, worn suspensions components or too much to drink. A sway bar will help in corners

My VS had no anti-sway bar when built. I added a 3/4 inch sway-a-way brand bar. Cost was $50.

I agree the problem is more likely caused by bad alignment though.

I just bought a sway a way front sway bar for my 2002 VS. Would you let me know which clamps you used to install yours. Also anything else you can tell me about the installation. Thanks in advance.

I used the clamps that came in the kit. I just had to pull the bar as far forward as possible to clear the front subframe bolts. After the bar is positioned I tightened the clamps. Installation time was about 45 minutes.

my sway bar kit did not come with clamps or any kind of instructions. Only got the bar and the four bushings. I bought a clamp kit from CIP and got sway-a-way to fax me the instructions. I see what you mean about clearing the bolts, I think I can put it on now.

Michael, I bought a Sway-a-Way #9162. You can go to thier web site and see the application chart and a list of dealers as well. Also, clamps are not included.

I went over to local tire place to have my wheels alligned.
I was told that they need to know what the specs are on the
wheel. Adding, that they need to know where the allignment
should be. Do you know what the specs are for the VS ?

Your alignment specs should be based on the donor car. For instance my car is a 1968 Beetle. My local tire store has the specs for this car in there computer.

Front wander at 60 can be caused by bad tires, bad alignment, no sway bar on an un even road and improper air pressure. We have developed a better front end set of alignment specs. If anyone wants them e-mail us direct and we will share them even if you got your car elsewhere. We redo about 5 CMC and early Intermecanica cars each year and have applied these specs with good results, the Speedster is lighter and the front is lower, stock VW specs are good to start from but htese work better.

Eric, stock VW alignment specs for a donor car may not be valid as most replicas are built with a shortened wheelbase.

John Steele has supplied a nice document with all the maintenance specs my car didn't come with. I bought my car used with no information about care and maintenance.

I got the specs. Lots if information from a very small package.
For someone like myself who's not technical in cars in general
it is a very valuable reference for my VS.

It was funny looking back the day I got my car I was looking for
a manual or something. I did not know what the extra lever is for,
one next to the emergency brake !. The extra knob on the dash board
I thought for sure was the "choke"....then the wiper came on. Then
how do I open the engine lid......anyways,
