What happened here is that I have obtained an older, never finished FiberFab Speedster. I now have it running and getting ready for the road. Aside from a few things like wipers, my Speedster is ready to go.

I did not like the el cheapo carpet that came with the FiberFab Speedster. I went down to Home Depot to get some nuts and bolts and also checked out some carpet. They have some really nice hard finish stainmaster carpet in patterns. I have a two questions and maybe an answer.

1. Will the indoor carpet work in a Speedster? (I will be getting a hardtop and intend to use it full time.)
2. Why not do the interior ENTIRELY in carpet? (OK, I have leather seats and they stay, but everything else seems like it should work with carpet. The carpet will co-ordinate with the seats but not color match.) If I choose a stock pattern, I should even be able to replace with the same for several years. Has anyone ever done this? Comments?

If I have the seats re-done at some future date and I decide to change, I can always replace the carpet door panels with matching leather. Best of all, the carpet should hide anti-noise/anti vibration material if I decide to use same.

It seems to me that the idea should work.

I think the 'design' questions you pose really get to the heart of what you like, what you've seen and what sort of statement you want your car to make...
All carpet sounds (no pun intended)as if it would address a lot of noise and vibration issues.

All carpet might end up heavier than the traditional fibreboard clad in vinyl applications.

Some original cars had carpet on the backside of the front seats.

Carpet can act like a wick or a sponge when wet.

My '81 Targa has an open weave black fabric everywhere Porsche would have leather or vinyl except on the dash. I like it because it isn't hot and sticky in the summer as some smooth surfaces can be...Conversely it is warm to the touch in winter.
It is a comparitive pain to clean and get my dog's hair off of.
A couple issues you'll have to address - wrapping the carpet around the door panels (which may be impossible as the carpet will be too thick) - Or, an alternate solution might be to have the edges of the carpeted door panels "finished" by sewing some vinyl piping around the edges., - the second is the door handle - the carpet may be too thick to re-attach the handle properly.
In IMHO, no matter how you do it, I think it's going to look unprofessional.
