Ron, I have to admit, they are cool lookin'. As far as authenticity goes however, Johnson's Resto Guide says: (Pg 98)..........Starter buttons were discontinued when the 356A gained a combination ignition / starter switch. This was at or very close to the 356 - 356A model change. ( I'm thinking late '55 ? )
Further reading allows me to answer your question more directly:
" Directly right of the steering wheel was the starter button on 356 Coupes and Cab's. On Speedsters it was above the ignition switch. With a few exceptions in very early cars ( which had black buttons ) starter button color matched the color of the other knobs and the steering wheel "
There's a picture of an "early Speedster" in Gordon Maltby's "Porsche 356 and RS Spyders" book (pg. 90) showing the dash (small central multi-gauge, big Speedo and Tach) with the ignition to the right of the gauge cluster, and a starter button just above it (about 1" apart). The chrome bezels are the same diameter - maybe 1"(?), and the starter button looks to be 5/8" in diameter. This cars' dash buttons are all ivory - so is the starter button. Looks like a big, ivory door bell button. Wish I had a flat-bed scanner so I could send along a picture.
