Todd, I think your looking too deep. Step back.
How do you know the starter is spinning the flywheel? If it is then you have big issues. Your starter probably is not fully engaging the flywheel and spinning against the teeth. You hear spinning but no
engine movement. If you're lazy (like me) and want to confirm your thoughts, push start your car. If once started you can drive it and engage your gears then your flywheel connection is fine. You also may have damaged teeth on the flywheel at one point (doubt it). Rotate your engine a bit by hand and try the starter again. If it works then you may have teeth issues.
Probably just a dirty or worn starter gear.
