I was trying to start the cars, I heard a gringing noise when the starter engaged the flywheel, not the start is turning, but not turning the engine at all. What is the issue? Bushing or Flywheel?

Todd, I think your looking too deep. Step back.
How do you know the starter is spinning the flywheel? If it is then you have big issues. Your starter probably is not fully engaging the flywheel and spinning against the teeth. You hear spinning but no
engine movement. If you're lazy (like me) and want to confirm your thoughts, push start your car. If once started you can drive it and engage your gears then your flywheel connection is fine. You also may have damaged teeth on the flywheel at one point (doubt it). Rotate your engine a bit by hand and try the starter again. If it works then you may have teeth issues.
Probably just a dirty or worn starter gear.

Another possible (but less likely) cause could be poor contact area limiting the amount of current getting to the starter. This could be either at the actual contacts on the starter solenoid, at one of the battery connections, or at the wire connection on the solenoid coming from the battery.
You have a T4 914 engine and a T1 transmission? Are you using a 210mm flysheel from a bus (or rare 411/412 std trans) or the orignal 215mm 914 flywheel? The 914 flywheel has the teeth offset differently and won't mesh with a T1 starter.

Actually I opted for my 1776cc instead. The 914 is being used for another project, check spyderowners.com in 6 months :).

Id put money on Mikes statment. Usally if a starter has set a while it will stick.
I pulled the started and the bushing was all jacked up. Looks like it tore apart. Like I said POC. I'm buying an auto-stick today.
