starter motors

Hi guys, quite new to the vw thing,putting together a speedster in the uk with a type 4 lump. Question is do l use a type2 or a type1 starter or do l need a high torque starter motor for the lump,its got around 150bhp with lots of torque. Any feedback would be great.

If he is fitting it to a VW T1 transmission then he will need a T2 (or 411/412) 200/210mm flywheel and will use a T1 starter. If he is using a 901/911 transmission then the Porsche 914 215 mm flywheel and starter would be used. Some one noted in another post that the starter from an AT T1 was stronger. I've always had problems with my 911 until I recently installed a high torque starter I got off Ebay for $109. The thing's a dream! It'll even overcome my usual flooding when warm.

I now never fear stopping off for a few minutes somewhere and having trouble starting.

Hi-Torque starter (gear reduction starter - whatever they want to call it). They are the BOMB. Use less battery power and spin fast for easy start ups in hot/cold etc.

Have one on the spyder and one on the diesel pickup truck. angela
