I have a Porsche column in my car and it's currently mounted with a generic column drop. I'm replacing it with an OEM-style aluminum version. The rubber donut won't come close to fitting without -- it appears -- some clearancing. Is this how these are installed, do you need to trim the edges down to fit?

I would probably trim it to fit. But that's just me ....... I would use my belt sander and slowly remove material till it fit the clamp. Round the edges as well and call it a day.

In this hobby, nothing (absolutely nothing) is going to "fit" like a production car. Everything needs massaged or adapted. It's part of the appeal.

Thanks, it is. It’s a wonderful car. The guy that bought it from Teby put under 200 miles on it in two years, so it needed some attention. I went through the carbs, put in a starter, LED lights, Koni shocks, adjustable spring plates and lowered it. I put 650 miles on it the first week I owned it. I had Porsches in the Sixties and then moved into pre-war hot rods. I’ve been into these Speedsters for years and when Teby’s popped up on BaT it checked all my boxes. He’s been really helpful with all my tech questions, a great guy.
