I know I have asked about this before but I am finally ready to put one in. I am looking for a straight steering column to replace the standard 73 vw column that has turn signals and ignition.
I am planning to place my ignition on the dash so I am trying to find a nice (black or chrome) column that would replace mine with little or no modifications?
If anyone has one please let me know a price + shipping to Greenville SC. Also, if anyone has a seperate turn signal unit that mounts to the steering column I may be interested in that too.

Thank for the help.
John

The steering column and shaft you have will work without the Alum. housing for the ign. switch.
Just unbolt the aluminum part and toss it out.
Then get a Steering Column Bearing kit, install it in the tube that was part of the Column you have left.
If the Steering shaft is in good shape, check the expanded metal collapsible portion of it carefully for cracks, and deformation like Stretched or collapsed. If it's OK Use that part too.
If you use a shaft that has that safety collapsible portion, check clearance beneath gas tank (if you are using a VW tank). It gets real close in this area and can rub the tank if not installed low enough.
The 67 Turn signal switch will fit this tube. You'll have to work out the horn grounding because the grounding stuff got tossed when you threw away the Aluminum housing that had the Ignition Switch hole and the contacts for the Stock horn setup.
I had some 1& 3/4" (1.750 O.D.)"Chrome tubing that used to be Straight pipes on a Harley. That fits over the VW Steering column like it was made for it.
I used this chrome tubing cover from the base of the turn signal switch to the clamp beneath the dash.
This may be the long way around, but having more time than money, that
