Watching a few old clips of the Dylan Mckay Speedster from 90210. Kind of an odd steering wheel design. Not a banjo, not a Derrington. Not sure what it is. Looks like a three spoke, wood (painted black to match the exterior), and a cool design on the spoke. The center of it has the Porsche crest with gold trim.

Any ideas on what kind of steering wheel this is? I like it.

Sorry for the poor pics. Taken of a TV with a cell phone.

Thanks Lane. So please, educate me. Isn't the Cabriolet the convertible? I was under the impression that the Speedster Cabriolet was the convertible? Is that correct? Sorry if I my post wasn't completely clear, but this car was a convertible on the show, which would make it a Porsche Speedster (Cabriolet model), right? What was the Carrera model? All these different variants are making my head spin!! Yes, I think you're right, that is the Carrera 2 Teak Steering Wheel.

Speedy 723, You're confusing oranges and apples. The speedster is a different fruit than the cabriolet.

The cabriolet was a comfortable all weather top of the line item: Roll up windows, body integrated windshield frame, radio, cushy seats, thick padded top that didn't flap in the wind...whereas the speedster was the bare bones item whos production ended in 1958: Door curtains instead of windows, low slung uncomfortable one piece seats, no provision for radio, flimsy top, separate windshield frame, and a 'turtle' rear engine deck...a much sexier piece of fruit than the cabriolet!!!

For one year only, 1959, the sexy turtle back 356A speedster received a body integrated windshield frame to acommodate roll up windows, and was designated "Convertible D" (for Drauz)

In 1960 with the revamped 356B styling this became a Porsche Roadster...roll up windows but still bare bones...and still sexy!!

So the roll up window replicas of the 356A that are referred to as 'roadsters' are really replicating the '59 Convertible D

But what the hell, a rose by any other name...

I like Reisner's Convertible, I'm still struggling to find the visual differences between the Cabriolet and the Speedster though.

Here are a few more pics of the car I saw on TV and a few more questions.

1. What is with the top, it looks like it is folded down and laying partially in the rear, almost to act as an area to sit in for rear passengers?

2. It looks like the car has a clock and a radio too, look to the right on the one photo. Is this another Cabriolet design cue?

3. I've seen the car in the rear and it has two, for lack of a better term, grills over the turtle back/hood where the engine sits. Most Speedsters I've seen have only one grill. Why is this?

4. Yes, that is the Carrera steering wheel. What year range did that steering wheel come in, any ideas?
