Has anyone had Mike Lempert make a wheel for them?  Any thoughts/ recommendations?

I'm thinking of having him make me a Nardi Style- Flat (in lieu of dished) wheel for my VS.  I love the look of the banjo, but its a little big for my preference. And after driving a 360mm nardi for the past few weeks I wished a had something slightly larger ~ in the 380mm range, and with a more traditional 21mm grip (In lieu of the modern 31mm).

a link to his site:  http://www.pbase.com/mdlempert/wheels

a linwheels wheel sample: http://www.pbase.com/mdlempert/invent1226132

I have seen a few of his wheels on MGs and Austin's, and his quality appears exceptional...

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.  Many thanks.

I also whent with a ISP hub. Pictures attached (in lieu of nardi smooth (not accordeon hub) -- felt Nardi was a little long for my taste).  the ISP is 2cm shorter and a little wider at the base for better hub/blinker switch mating.   A nice custom piece I stumbled on by chance.  (I will be paintings part of it ivory to match the column and blinker color when I get the new wheel.)

cheers

Mike made my wheel. He's a close friend of Lane Anderson.

He also made one for Dave Mitchell.

Mine is a 15" tri spoke, flat dished Nardi hubbed wheel in rosewood with four holes in each spoke. Photos are in my file.

It's a nice wheel and priced reasonably, especially considering it was a custom design. Mike was great at the beginning of the process with excellent communication. However, that dropped off and I waited over two years to get my wheel. In all fairness, Mike had some health problems and production issues along the way which, I'm sure, added to the delay. Thanks to Lane I finally received my wheel and am very happy with the look of it. I think the style fits the car far better than the Nardi that a large number of Speedsters have. The 21mm thickness of the wheel takes some getting used to, especially during spirited driving. Gloves help.

Please feel free to dialog me for my phone number if you'd like more info/photos.

I have a Mike Lempert steering wheel just like the one Lane has on the Beck I just purchased, great quality and great looking in my opinion. Since the wheel is not dished, I am curious how much clearance you will have between the wheel and turn signals. I found a 1 1/2" Billet spacer that may give me the additional clearance. Your ISP hub looks really nice and something for me to investigate.  Did you get yours at ISP West?

That would probably help you situation as would the hub adapter that I mentioned in our dialogs.  The thing shown above looks better, though.

In my car I stacked the 1" aluminum spacer from Carey on top of the black accordion style hub adapter, which moved the wheel closer to me.  I initially had it without the spacer and it was a bit of a reach since I had Carey move the seat back an inch further than normal.

Hello,

Mike is building me a new wheel now. I'm supposed to have it at the end of the month. At that point it will be a 6 week turn around from deposit to delivery. I'm not 100% confident that I'll receive it at that time, but so far so good.

I will need a 5 hole to 6 hole adapter OR I will need a completely new hub.

Lane - if you have any suggested hubs that will fit my 67 bug spline, Please feel free to share.

My garage is also a hazard zone, but remodels can go a bit on the cazy side.

Attached some pictures of my brothers garage in Bellevue.  2brm, 3.5 bath home, with space for 16 cars and a full shop.  House is up for sale... got married last year, has brand new twins, and wife not digging the wasted garage space as she reffers to it.  He didn't think of getting married and kids when he built the house. ;-)

that white box around his wifes mercedes is the elevator to get the cars from the main garage/house to the work shop downstairs.

A little over the top for my taste, but family is family.
