steering wheel offset

I read somewhere that the steering wheel on pan based Speedsters is offset in relation to the driver. Is this correct, and the case with CMC?

Since I have to convert the dash to RHD, and fabricate my own tube chassis it would be simple to rectify this now.

Yes it is because of how the body fits on the pan. I hardly noticed it until someone mentioned it here.

Easy fix it to use a Super Beetle universal joint inthe column shaft.

If you put the universal joint in, wouldn't you have to support the shaft in an additional location?

Do you have any suggestions for that?

Is it the bottom end that you would move sideways? The top end is fixed by the bracket on the cross tube.

With one U joint, it can be added near the steeing box end w/o an additional brace, if you wanted to include a bearing/brace, there are street rod suppliers that have this available.

I will need to cut out the dash and redo in RHD. Is this something that I need to compensate for when mirror imaging the dash, or does the universal do the trick, and the wheel becomes centred?

I don't get it if the top end is fixed? Then again I havn't seen it yet

Side to side? Wouldnt that require 2 joints?

During my build I immediately noticed about 10-15 degree misalignment, in the up-n-down axis. Is that acceptable for the coupler or is a U-Joint needed??
